ABOUT THE ROLE

Albert Uster Imports is in search of a new Distribution Center Manager in our Miami Warehouse. The manager will manage all aspects of the warehouse and facility including Staffing, Shipping, Receiving, Inventory Management, Routine GDP Program Compliance Management and Facilities Maintenance. They will evaluate and work toward cost reduction through increased efficiency and innovation and meets or exceeds established budgets, and metrics for all areas of the warehouse operation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency for all aspects of the Distribution Center operation, including the Company’s Warehouse Management and Shipping Systems and will be responsible for the training and development of all DC Team Members.  The Distribution Center Manager will communicate business changes and needs to all personnel and interfaces with other areas of the business as required.  This position must support all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the warehouse and serve as the focal point of contact for all problem solving.

 

RESPONSIBILTIES

WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT

  • Ensures proper staffing of the warehouse for the level of business reflective of the season and business climate
  • Ensures warehouse expenses are managed within budget. (People, Freight Spend, and Supplies)
  • Manages the overall warehouse and facility to the Company’s satisfaction
  • Adheres to the Company’s Good Distribution Program (GDP), ensuring the facility is always ready for all audits and inspections

WAREHOUSE PHYSICAL FACILITY & PERIMETER MANAGEMENT

  • Maintains security of inventories and company assets
  • Maintain, Clean, Safe and Hygienic environment both within the warehousing area, dock areas and perimeter of the building, ensuring proper sweeping, mopping and trash pickup
  • Ensures conformance to and compliance with governmental regulations
  • Conducts periodic inspection of facility infrastructure.  Reports findings and arranges for the required maintenance activity as required
  • Schedules and monitors preventative maintenance to ensure proper functioning of HVAC, refrigeration, pest control and fire prevention
  • Maintains facility security system

TRANSFER MANAGEMENT

  • Ensures all required product transfers are processed and shipped within 48 hours of receipt
  • Ensures accuracy of transfer, making sure that all items are staged, scanned, and double checked before posting
  • Responsible for seeking approval for all changes
  • Ensures timely receiving of inbound transfers; scanned and put-away upon physical receipt, per established company guidelines

RECEIVING

  • Ensures the processing of all inbound receipts (by purchase order) into inventory within 24-48 hours
  • Ensures the reporting of all receiving discrepancies (OS&D, Purchase Order issues) per established reporting procedures
  • Process all customer returns per established company guidelines, and disposition accordingly

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

  • Implement and manage Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) requirements in the Distribution Center, utilizing the tools provided by the Company’s Quality Food Safety and Quality Manager
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of the Company’s Food Safety Program and serve as the local facility expert on the subject
  • Participate in Annual Audits along with the FSQA Manager

STOCK MAINTENANCE

  • Supervise all restocking and inventory disposition activity (dispose or donate); responsible for 100% adherence to established processes
  • Rotate/Replenish Stock adhering to the principles of First Expired, First Out (FEFO)
  • Ensure accuracy of picking/storage locations; Lot Tracking, and Home location administration
  • Manage “cycle count” activity to ensure inventory accuracy
  • Participate in Physical Inventories. Maintain inventory accuracy within established budget guidelines
  • Re-barcode when necessary
  • Ensure that stock is properly stored and protected
  • Report non-conforming products to Purchasing for stock adjustments. Move identified products to designated location
  • Perform weekly inspection of all inventory items and report any issues, such as overstock and short stocked items
  • Active participation in stock level reviews

ORDER FULFILLMENT

  • Ensure all customer orders received before the cut-off time are processed and shipped the same day, as required
  • Interact with Customer Service Representatives (CSR’s) on all issues (routing, freight claims, OS&D, etc.)
  • Ensure steps are taken to mitigate shipping errors; facilitate retraining as needed
  • Ensure all pulled items are Scanned (checked)
  • Ensure packaging procedures are followed while ensuring; proper usage of supplies, correct sized boxes (for both weight and dimension) and proper labeling of products requiring special handling
  • Ensure all necessary business need communication is provided to carriers
  • Achieve a thorough knowledge of both FedEx and UPS Manifest systems
  • Achieve a good understanding of how to manage shipping activity with freight companies
  • Set daily pickup appointments with LTL carriers/brokers
  • Demonstrate knowledge of LTL carriers both dry and refrigerated
  • Work closely with Common Carriers (UPS & FedEx) to schedule late pickups and/or midday pick-up sweeps
  • Plan for and communicate business trends to DC Personnel and Carrier companies, to ensure “on-time” shipping performance

SUPPLY ORDERING

  • Ensure timely ordering is completed, ensuring an ample “on-hand” supply of packaging materials, such as boxes, tape, dunnage, dry ice, ice packs, and other supplies are available as needed
  • Be alert for new packing materials available in the market to increase efficiency and/or reduce costs
  • Audit packaging supply vendors and “rate shop” at least once per year

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • People Manager! Assist with the recruitment of warehouse personnel. Selects, manages, schedules, trains, coaches, and develops an optimal complement of team members who can successfully interact with all internal and external constituencies to help achieve the core objectives, while preserving and maintaining a positive reputation for AUI
  • Evaluates, and documents performance of staff for compliance with job standards, established AUI policies, objectives and contributions in attaining assigned objectives, encouraging an overall spirit of teamwork and collaboration within AUI
  • Responsible for all disciplinary and termination actions, as required of all Distribution Center personnel
  • Performs and documents periodic feedback with the Asst. DC Manager and warehouse staff
  • Conducts regular staff meetings, and on an as-needed basis, instructs staff on company goals, company events, marketing promotions, new products, and sales programs, explaining the impact on their jobs

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish is required
  • 6 years of equivalent working experience in warehousing, logistics and/or other related fields
  • Forklift certification
  • Knowledge of modern warehousing techniques including logistics, special handling/storage requirements and shipping alternatives
  • Ability to lead, motivate and supervise employees; Must have the ability to communicate, both actively, and pro-actively
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed to objectives without supervision; Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems
  • Physical requirements (lifting, etc.): The ability to lift 50 lbs

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree with three years of experience in the field or high school diploma
  • Must be willing to work overtime, holidays and weekends as workload dictates.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Senior VP Operations or Logistics Director

 

SALARY RANGE

Albert Uster Imports hires exceptional people to perform a wide variety of important functions that contribute to the success of the Company. One of the ways AUI does that is through a competitive compensation package. The base salary for this role will be $60,000 - $65,000.

This role will be bonus eligible.

Based on your qualifications, previous experience, and transferrable skills, the Company will determine at its sole discretion, the salary offered.
