The external developer community builds robust customizations that are key to how HubSpot delights its end-users. This developer audience expects empathy, authenticity, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. It is the HubSpot DevRel Advocacy team who empowers and inspires external developers to grow better.

Do you have a passion for helping software developers expand their skills? As a developer advocate you will help external CMS, and Platform developers grow and build better by leveraging HubSpot APIs and other developer tools. Advocates lead with empathy to connect with external developers on a human level, share their technical knowledge, and represent developer needs internally. As developer advocates we help our diverse audiences realize the art-of-the-possible with HubSpot. We build on a foundation of technical content which is used to start conversations and engage in public spaces. We are a cross-functional team that builds on the combined efforts of our internal stakeholders in marketing, developer programs, and developer community. Advocates love to educate, inspire, and equip developers to do more with their careers and HubSpot.

In this role, you will:

  • Use your blend of technical know-how and communication skills to craft inclusive technical and thought leadership content such as blog posts, webinars, and videos for a diverse audience.
  • Be a public voice and face of HubSpot developer platform in public developer spaces such as tech forums, events, podcasts, webinars, etc.
  • Grow your sphere of influence based on a clear platform development point-of-view and communicate that to broad diverse audiences.
  • Partner with developer community, developer marketing, and developer programs stakeholders to help amplify your and existing community content in broader and more diverse developer spaces.
  • Provide valuable feedback to our product and engineering teams by being the voice of the developer.
  • Work with stakeholders and partners to create “first of its kind” and inclusive demonstrations of the “art of the possible” with HubSpot technology.
  • Share your message via presentations to one-to-one and one-to-many audiences.

What are the role requirements?

  • Experience building prototype level applications from start to finish on any tech stack.
  • Ability to conceptually understand and explain technical concepts and overall technologies in an easy to consume way.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders. Able to adapt communication contextually to your audience.
  • Experience ideating, and authoring code-level content in written and/or video format.
  • Someone who is hungry to learn and eager to find unique ways to share what they have learned to diverse audiences.
  • The ability to facilitate multiple points of view. Building strong and credible relationships with engineers and architects while respecting different viewpoints.
  • Has a foundational following and experience engaging on social platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn, GitHub, Medium, YouTube, etc.
  • Regularly think of ways to expand the sphere of influence of your team and yourself.
  • Community minded and driven to foster diversity and inclusion within the broader developer community.
  • Someone who exemplifies HEART

We don’t expect you to be an expert at everything. By collaborating with the other advocates and on-the-job training a candidate who is a professional learner will get up to speed quickly.
