The Role 

BuzzFeed is looking for a strategic, creative, data-driven and business-minded leader (yes….we know that’s a lot!) to oversee the biggest and oldest area of content for its owned and operated properties — classic BuzzFeed lists. This person will serve as both the creative and operational lead for O&O content in this area (which does not include lifestyle, trending or celebrity news). 

You Will 

This leader will work with many teams across the company including Tech, Business/Sales, Audience Development, Social and Editorial, so they should also be collaborative, communicative and flexible, and ideally have direct experience working with multiple stakeholders and balancing many (sometimes conflicting) KPIs. 

Because this is a role that includes both strategy and execution, this person should be able to think high-level but also be willing to get in the weeds and get things done. Their day-to-day tasks will be self-determined and dependent on the individual’s plan of action, so accountability and communication are key. 

The three most important things we’re looking for in a candidate are: the ability to motivate creative people, experience using data to inform content strategy, and a genuine interest in driving — not just reacting to — internet culture. Success in this role will be measured in the short-term by audience growth, medium-term by format innovation and long-term by brand identity and strength. 

You Have

  • 6+ years of experience in digital media
  • Actual content production and/or writing experience for a digital platform 
  • Experience leading a team of content creators 
  • A deep understanding of various output and growth strategies, namely for an owned & operated platform where monetization and dynamics vary widely from social platforms
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Comfort speaking publicly on behalf of the company and team 
  • Ideas about what BuzzFeed even is and what it should be
