Zymergen’s Finance and Accounting team plays a critical role in ensuring the underlying integrity of the company financials as well as supporting the smooth-running of the business and providing planning and analysis to our business leaders.  

Finance and Accounting interns will gain exposure to a broad range of activities, including day to day accounting, financial planning and reporting activities, as well as involvement in special projects . The candidate will also get to participate in and experience the growth phase of Zymergen, which has tripled in size since 2015.

Job Description and Focus Areas

Areas of focus may include:

  • Experience of end to end accounting processes and general ledger reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly business reports and their analysis
  • Work on tax compliance and provision calculation
  • Special projects, depending on current business activities


Candidates currently pursuing their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, mathematics or other quantitative discipline.  Fluency with Microsoft Office application suite and equivalents (e.g., Google Drive). Strong Excel skills are required. Previous general ledger experience is beneficial, but not essential.
