Compass is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic Enterprise Technology team. As an industry-leading real estate technology provider, Compass leverages Okta for single sign on and user lifecycle workflows. The Enterprise Technology team is also responsible for critical SaaS applications such as Google Workspace, OpsGenie, JIRA, and Zendesk that serve to streamline operations and enhance productivity. The successful candidate will play a strategic role driving the evolution of the Okta platform within Compass.

Position Overview:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, your primary focus will be Okta with secondary responsibilities covering additional SaaS applications such as Google Workspace, Workday, OpsGenie, ZenDesk, and DocusignCLM as required. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify business requirements, design scalable solutions, and ensure smooth integration with existing systems. Your technical expertise, analytical mindset, and attention to detail will be vital in providing effective solutions that support organizational strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive and influence how Compass leverages the Okta Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution, including directory services, authentication systems, workflows, SCIM, user lifecycle, and access control mechanisms.
  • Emphasize efficient, scalable solutions that minimize technical debt.
  • Develop and implement CI/CD pipelines and best practices for infrastructure deployments, compliance, and custom automation workflows, ensuring robust and repeatable processes.
  • Design and deploy global employee onboarding and offboarding automation systems to enhance efficiency and minimize manual intervention.
  • Automate application provisioning using Infrastructure/Configuration as Code (IaC/CaC) tools like Terraform to drive scalability and efficiency.
  • Implement advanced monitoring solutions for client-facing products to maintain performance, reliability, and a seamless user experience.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to propose innovative solutions.
  • Seek to evolve team processes in alignment with engineering best practices and standards.
  • Generate high quality technical and process documentation to ensure knowledge transfer to support teams and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering their growth and development.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development or engineering with a focus on Okta, IAM tools, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
  • Experience building and maintaining complex Okta Workflows.
  • Experience with identity federation using SAML/OIDC for authentication and SCIM for automated user provisioning and lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles and tools such as CircleCI and GitHub. 
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more SaaS applications such as: ZenDesk, Workday, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and JIRA.
  • Intermediate to advanced scripting or coding skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash, Terraform) to automate tasks and enhance system functionality.
  • Proficiency in working with APIs and integrating SaaS applications with other systems.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and manipulation, including working with large datasets and SQL queries.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including access controls, authentication mechanisms, and data encryption.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical ideas and advocate for appropriate solutions.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality work on schedule and with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Okta certifications: Okta Certified Developer - Workforce Identity Cloud, Okta Certified Administrator, Okta Certified Technical Architect
  • Other relevant certifications such as: Google Workspace Administration, Zendesk Support Administrator Expert, Salesforce Administrator, etc.
  • Experience in managing and troubleshooting cloud-based infrastructure, preferably in AWS or GCP.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products - JIRA Service Management, Confluence, OpsGenie

Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $86,000-$129,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
