We are seeking an experienced Director of Product Management to play a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of both managers and PMs, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and orchestrating their efforts to deliver impactful solutions with technical excellence. Your capacity to navigate and propel complex technical initiatives independently will be critical, instilling confidence, and driving progress. Exceptional soft skills, coupled with superb communication abilities, are imperative as you navigate collaborative endeavors and lead by example across the organization. 

As a Director of Product Management at Compass you will be responsible for setting direction and driving major strategic and product initiatives. You’ll manage and mentor a team of product managers and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes UX Designers, Software Engineers and Product Marketing Managers. You will work closely with senior leadership and stakeholders from across the company, in addition to your team, support, and our agents to define product strategy, build roadmaps, and lead our product development efforts around key aspects of the Compass agent and staff experiences. 

This role will involve delivering on initiatives that impact some of the most critical areas of the platform, including operationally ensuring agents are able to complete their compliance obligations, request commissions and be paid on time, and accurately. This in addition to ensuring agents can track their business goals, and see the value that the Compass platform delivers them. Your collaboration with Engineering, Design, and Operations counterparts will be instrumental in translating concepts into tangible products, driving projects from conception to customer delivery, across multiple verticals.

At Compass You Will:

  • Lead and grow a strong product management team that works with cross functional partners, including engineering, design, product marketing, research, and product ops.
  • Understand Compass’ strategic and competitive position, leading your team to deliver products that are recognized as best in the industry.
  • Partner closely with and influence senior leadership across the company to contribute to strategic priorities and initiatives.
  • Develop junior through to senior product managers by helping to set product strategy and mentoring and coaching them on the mechanics of being a great product manager.
  • Set clear goals and expectations for team and individual performance, working collaboratively with your team to establish measurable objectives and commitments that align with organizational goals.
  • Lead the annual and quarterly planning cycles in partnership with engineering, including gathering cross-functional inputs and determining prioritization and resource allocation.
  • Optimize for scalability and repeatability while understanding and considering complex use cases and needs across geographical regions. You will contribute to engineering discussions and technical strategy related to a product.
  • Work with agents, product marketing, support, and key internal stakeholders to carefully understand and analyze user needs, turning those into a product strategy, roadmap, and detailed specifications.
  • Using detailed specifications as your foundation, collaborate with engineering and design leaders, driving accountability to ship features that are highly usable, and loved by our customers and staff.
  • Provide thought leadership and improve product craft and processes throughout the extended Product and Engineering organization.
  • Cultivate a positive team culture that encourages collaboration, creativity, and innovation, fostering an environment where diverse perspectives are valued and respected.

What We Look For:

  • 10+ years of experience in a product focused company growing successful teams
  • 5+ years of experience hiring, building, and scaling PM teams
  • BS in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent. MS or MBA preferred but not required
  • Strong technical foundations, either from academic, engineering, or hands-on product development experience, with an ability to assess and contribute to engineering discussions related to a product
  • A manager-doer who’s willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done
  • Proven ability to build and lead teams and work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical team members. 
  • Ability to effectively gather and prioritize user requirements from disparate sources, going beyond user requests to get to key needs, and the ability to rationalize across and resolve stakeholder differences
  • Strong consensus and relationship-building skills, with experience marshaling resources across different functions of an organization
  • Demonstrated ability to develop inspiring, multi-year product vision that is aligned with business strategies
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced, high-growth, and rapidly changing environment, bringing clarity to ambiguity
  • Strategic product thinker who can examine the changing landscape and use that information to define product strategy and prioritize the problems to solve
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that allows you to influence other teams, create clarity, and drive focus on complex problems

The base pay range for this position is $178,300-$267,400 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
