We’re hiring a contract Designer to support our Growth Marketing team’s needs. 

About our team and what we’ll build together

The design team at theSkimm consists of ambitious, collaborative, and thoughtful designers, who work closely on all things related to theSkimm brand. We feel passionate and excited about designing products that millions of people touch on a daily basis.As a Part-Time Designer, you’ll work closely with our Growth Marketing team to develop visually engaging assets for our paid advertising and lifecycle marketing efforts. From designing standout ad creatives to crafting beautiful, conversion-focused emails, your work will be instrumental in driving engagement and supporting our marketing initiatives.

This is a short-term, contract position for November and December 2024.

What you'll be doing

  • Design and produce high-quality assets for paid advertising campaigns, including social media and display ads.
  • Create visually appealing email designs that align with our brand and marketing goals.
  • Collaborate with the Growth Marketing team to iterate on creative concepts and ensure assets meet campaign objectives.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all visual assets and help evolve our brand identity as needed.
  • Manage and organize design files in Figma to ensure smooth workflow and collaboration.

What you'll need

  • Figma Expertise: You know the ins and outs of Figma and are comfortable using it as your primary design tool.
  • Marketing Design Experience: A background in creating assets for paid advertising and lifecycle marketing, with a strong portfolio to show your skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
  • Attention to Detail: You have a keen eye for detail and understand the importance of consistency in brand visuals.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate ideas and collaborate effectively with remote teams.

  • A strong understanding of our target demo since you read theSkimm every day.
  • Sailthru Experience: Familiarity with Sailthru (or a similar email marketing platform) is a plus but not required.

This is a short-term, contract position from November 1 through the end of year. The expected rate for this role is $7,000 each month. We’ll consider a variety of factors when determining the offered base salary including an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, and internal parity.

What about the office?

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work. 

Our office is available to use four days a week — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that full-time employees within the New York Metro area come together in person two days a week. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in New York and will adjust this plan accordingly.
