We’re hiring a Head of Sales to join our team. This is a full-time hybrid position based in New York City. 

About our team and what you'll be working on

theSkimm’s Sales team is a growing group of experienced, resourceful, and scrappy hustlers. We pull out all of the stops to get sh*t done, whether that’s working with agencies and clients directly, creating new and unique multi-platform opportunities, or seeking out third-party partnerships to drive incremental revenue. We’re seeking an experienced, energetic, and proven Head of Sales.  We are looking for a high performer to establish and drive account strategy for theSkimm’s dynamic sales team. The ideal candidate has significant advertising sales and leadership experience in digital media, with a proven track record of winning new business-building relationships and managerial experience.

theSkimm is for high performers who thrive off seeing a direct impact on their work. This is not a typical sales management role. theSkimm works hard to understand the marketing needs of our advertisers, and we develop creative and timely campaigns that add value to the lives of our users without jeopardizing the integrity of our voice and brand. Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, you'll lead a 10+ person team nationwide.

How you'll contribute to our mission

  • Manage, motivate, and develop a team of 10 sellers nationwide (with room to grow your team) to achieve quarterly and annual sales goals. 
  • Develop and execute a strategic revenue plan that achieves goals and grows market share.
  • Manage 1-2 strategic accounts of your own. 
  • Develop and leverage new and existing high-level client and agency relationships.
  • Support sellers in developing robust pipelines, category, and territory strategies 
  • Deliver marketplace feedback to improve sales products and selling strategy. 
  • Work closely with Brand Strategy, Client Services, Product, Content, Insights, and Commerce teams to drive the development of new proactive, cross-platform opportunities. 
  • Contribute creative and strategic guidance at the client, category, and territory levels. 
  • Serve as an ambassador for our brands in the market, clearly explaining our value proposition and creative platforms. 
  • Identify, monitor, and accurately forecast sales activity
  • Travel to clients and outside offices will be required. 

What we’re looking for

  • New York, NY area-based. 
  • 4+ years of successfully managing a team of digital account executives and meeting sales goals. 
  • 10+ years of digital advertising sales experience meeting or exceeding quota as a result of the sale of complex deals
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. Creativity is also a must. 
  • Familiarity and enthusiasm for theSkimm, our products, and the utility we offer to our audience 
  • Creative, strategic thinker who enjoys digging in and problem-solving 
  • Energetic, positive, and well-organized approach to sales and sales management
  • Experience selling multi-product sponsorships across native, custom content, social, display, newsletter, and experiential

What would set you apart

  • Existing high-level relationships at media agencies and brand direct. Large and complex deal size experience
  • Willingness to thrive in a startup organization and culture, highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and energetic.
  • Self-starter able to work remotely when necessary with background managing sales teams for digital lifestyle brands

The expected annual base salary for this role is $180,000-200,000. This role is also commission-eligible. We’ll consider various factors when determining the offered base salary, including evaluating a candidate’s skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, and internal parity.

What about the office?

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY, with flexibility for remote work. 

Our office is available to use Monday through Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of 2 times per week. All other days are up to the employees' discretion during the three days a week that the office will be open.
