We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer III to join our growing team in Richmond, VA. Our team is looking for a candidate with significant mechanical design experience. This candidate should also have the desire to help grow our team and manage and develop our young mechanical engineers.

Job Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer III you will be responsible for representing the Firm in all interactions with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members. You will be responsible for designing large projects, preparing reports and specifications, and providing a high level of technical leadership.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Assists senior engineer and/or senior designer in the on-going determination of project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and project budgets.
- Assists the senior engineer / senior designer in processing RFI’s, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Addenda
- Begins to establish system application, design, and operational parameters / sequences under the direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer.
- Creates basic designs under the direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer, develop specifications, system narratives and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes.
- Participates in / Ensure / Oversee QA/QC process for your work and the work of others.
- Performs construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects including conducting field inspections and subsequent detailed inspections reports.
- Represents Syska Hennessy Group and works in close contact with and effectively interact with the internal design team as well as external clients and consultants (including owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.
- Participates in various trade organizations and prepare presentations.
- As appropriate, manages CAD/BIM and other technical staff that is assigned for particular project or task as directed by the senior engineer and/or senior designer.
- Assists with employee reviews as requested.
- Estimates construction costs and to evaluate feasibility of construction using ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude)
- Writes engineering proposals under the direction of a senior engineer or senior designer for projects
Job Requirements
Successful candidates should have a current EIT and/or PE registration as a Mechanical Engineer with a solid, and stable work track record. The capability to fully design mechanical systems for various building types not only commercial and mixed-use but also mission critical, life science and R+D facilities would be a major plus and a good fit for this dynamic role.
Additional requirements of the Senior Mechanical Engineer include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- 3.5+ - 7+ years of experience working in a consulting firm
- LEED AP accreditation, highly preferred
- Candidate should possess a strong ability to coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and telecom, as well as its constructability and cost
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and REVIT experience
- EIT/FE required; PE preferred..
