STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE)
As a member of the critical infrastructure team, you will help design, build, activate and maintain some of the world’s most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be able to operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work with other construction engineers, architects and internal customers to support these goals and have the opportunity to drive real global impact, ultimately leading to making life multiplanetary. The position is based in Hawthorne, CA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform both civil and structural design and analysis calculations for structural steel and concrete as well as supplementary grading and drainage designs
- Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
- Lead the project team, consulting engineers and contractors throughout the entirety of the civil and structural engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning process
- Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial type projects
- Estimate material quantities, schedules, and costs for construction projects
- Support and manage the permitting process with AHJs and regulatory agencies
- Provide direct onsite engineering inspections and field observations
- Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
- Provide technical engineering support/information to ensure construction/maintenance complies with all standards, codes, and specifications
- Manage and support the civil and structural aspects facilities
- Collaborate and provide input to other members on a multidisciplinary team which may include HVAC, high power, cranes, and other facility systems
- Support corrosion control evaluations and repairs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or construction engineering
- 2+ years of professional experience in civil or structural engineering design, analysis, and drafting
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) steel manual, American Concrete Institute (ACI) code 318, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7, and International Building Code (IBC)
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software
- Experience with SAP 2000, STAAD Pro, RISA-3D, Etabs, or similar analysis software
- Knowledge of processes of governing permitting agencies such as building departments and/or environmental agencies
- Knowledge of other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying
- Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
- Experience with the following project delivery phases:
1) Conceptual layout and high level trade studies
2) Detailed engineering design and development
3) Request for proposals/quotes, contract issue
4) Supervision of construction to completion
5) Work punch lists and certificate of occupancy (CO) with building official
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
- Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
- Must be able to travel to other SpaceX sites as needed (up to 25%)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Structural Engineer/Level I, Facilities: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Structural Engineer/Level II, Facilities: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
