SMX is seeking a driven and talented Network Administrator to support network and systems engineering efforts. A successful candidate will have experience working with network infrastructure devices, protocols, and a proven ability to design, deploy, and maintain solutions supporting high-availability network infrastructures. Candidates must be highly motivated and will be required to respond to and provide resolutions to problems on a timely basis. This position involves the planning, configuring, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting of a variety of network systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Troubleshoot LAN, WAN, and application-level connectivity and performance problems as assigned using the ticketing system
  • Design highly available systems architectures using traffic management technology
  • Deploy new devices per engineered plans as assigned
  • Manage NAVAIR Security Boundaries – Maintain boundary security suites at NAVAIR core sites. Suites include Cisco switches and routers, F5 Big-IP load balancers
  • Work with NCDOC, NAVAIR IA, and PMOs to investigate network security incidents
  • Design, implement, and maintain DoD PK-Enablement Solutions for NAVAIR
  • Support NMCI/Legacy network interoperability and cloud migration efforts
  • Manage and administer F5 BigIP and Cisco network devices
  • Interface closely with management team by providing necessary notifications, assisting with reports and data calls
  • Perform monthly audit review of STIG standards and STIG updates of assigned devices
  • Perform weekly review of ACAS vulnerabilities and participate in the remediation planning and execution
  • Assist with maintaining team documentation including work instructions, SOPs, processes and desk guides
  • Work cohesively with other teams in support of the Data Center
  • This position requires participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation and off-hours maintenance windows.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Team Lead and the Data Center Management team

Required Skills: 

  • CCNA or related certification.
  • Available to work onsite at Patuxent River NAS at least two days a week
  • The selected applicant must have DoD 8570/5239 IAT Level II Certification (Security + CE equivalent, or greater), CCNA, and the ability to work independently
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is required to start. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • 5+ years' experience with Cisco device configuration and support
  • 5+ years’ experience with F5 BIG-IP configuration and support
  • Experience working with Network infrastructure devices and protocols, and a proven ability to design, deploy, and maintain solutions supporting high-availability network infrastructures

Desired Skills:

  • Solid background in network administration and architecture, as well as network operating systems.
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF).
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security.
  • Knowledge of DoD information assurance practices, including Security Technical Implementation guide (STIG)
  • Must be able to interact with peers, management and senior engineers in a constantly evolving environment to ensure a positive customer experience and atmosphere in the workplace.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational and communication skills.
