SMX is seeking a Director of Business Development, with experience successfully leading and growing high-visibility, mission-focused, large-dollar value enterprise technology transformation programs focused for Federal Financials customers. This highly visible position will work across SMX to develop strategy and drive business growth on the business to include strategic opportunities and program delivery.

The candidate will have overall responsibility for Federal Financials business development strategy, planning, and execution. The successful candidate will demonstrate the experience to manage the full scope of business practices including market alignment, business development, opportunity pipeline development and sustainment, client development and management, and proposal development support responsibilities.  The ideal candidate must be able to leverage a deep mission understanding of customers’ needs and objectives focused in the areas of Cloud, Cyber, Development, Digital Modernization, Data, and Systems Engineering & Integration. 

We are looking for a builder with a deep track record of success creating and growing Federal Financials focused solutions businesses that can leverage SMX’s national position as a leader in cloud and digital transformation solutions. This role is a unique opportunity to build, manage, and grow a focused business providing world class innovation. This position is a hybrid role based in Herndon, VA.  

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities are primarily focused on being an individual contributor, but it is important to be able to work in a team setting and leveraging the skills of other team members throughout the organization. You will be a conduit and liaison to the Digital Solution Group, Division, and Technical Centers of Excellence. Willingness to support company initiatives. You will perform market analysis, strategic business planning, capture strategy/solution development, customer engagement and support proposal responses. This position will include oversight of customer contact and positioning; management of an opportunity pipeline, forecasting, and capture management; teaming interactions; and coordination with other internal business development, program management, solution architecture, and growth resources available across the company in the development of winning proposals.

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience in the Federal IT market
  • Extensive experience (minimum 4 years) selling or supporting solutions for the Federal Financials mission; Working knowledge of missions, cultures, organizational components, leadership, major programs, challenges, and buying trends 
  • Track record of successfully capturing and winning >$25M multi-year new business RFPs
  • Established relationships with Federal Financials clients, stakeholders, and influencers, with demonstrated ability to develop and foster new relationships 
  • Experience interacting with and briefing senior government and industry acquisition officials 
  • Understanding the full business development lifecycle and has been successful in various customer domains within the federal markets
  • Proactive, organized, aggressive, and highly-skilled professional
  • Experience with contributing to proposals and the RFI, RFQ, or RFP process
  • In-depth knowledge of the competitive landscape and existing contracts within the Federal Financials Market Place 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, while maintaining a positive attitude, strong drive for results
  • Collaborative and proactive work across SMX to achieve broader company growth objectives while maintaining connectivity to the program/contract executing managers
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence 

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Clearance Preferred: DHS EOD or DOJ Secret
  • Additional knowledge and experience with adjacent capabilities in the areas of Enterprise IT; Cyber Operations, ITSM and Managed Services; Data Center, Cloud and Cloud Migration; Data Transport and Systems Integration; Application Development and Modernization; Big Data and Data Analytics is a plus
