SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking an Application Data Architect.  In this role, you will guide software engineering teams  in making informed decisions about persisting data for industry-leading online applications, enhancing the services that we provide  to our customers. You will leverage  cutting-edge data tools to design robust databases that promote high-quality, high-value data. 

What you’d be doing: 

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Architects and Engineers to translate business requirements into efficient database designs that accelerate the development of durable software products.  
  • Design and optimize databases to support online transactional and Master Data Management (MDM) solutions within our broader data ecosystem.  
  • Utilize modern data modeling tools to perform both logical and physical data modeling.  
  •  Provide guidance on data persistence strategies using AWS cloud relational databases, NoSQL databases, and caching solutions. Direct new data requirements to the appropriate database/domain. 
  •  Promote data literacy across the organization by implementing and managing a data catalog solution. Define and continuously improve data architecture best practices to maximize the value of data created by online solutions.  
  • Collaborate with Data Management and InfoSec teams to ensure the integrity, quality and security of all data. 

We’re looking for someone who has: 

  • Bachelor’s degree of Science in Computer Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.   
  • Minimum 5 years software architecture and design experience.  
  • Minimum 10 years relational database design and data normalization experience.  
  • Excellent collaboration and verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Experience working in an agile/scrum environment with several teams concurrently.  
  • Experience with modern data modeling tools like DbSchema, Vertabello or ERBuilder.  
  • Experience with modern relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL or extensive experience with established relational databases like Oracle or SQL Server.  
  • An understanding of Data Governance concerns including data privacy, security and retention.  

Highly preferred candidates also have: 

  • Master’s degree of Science in Computer Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Experience with designing for NoSQL databases like Cassandra or MongoDB.  
  • Experience with MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL. 
  • Experience with a microservices architecture.  
  • Experience with, or an understanding of, Object-Relational Mapping, Java and/or Go.  
  • Experience using cloud platforms, especially AWS.  
  • Experience with data catalog tools like Alation or Collibra.  
  • Experience in Insurance, Insurtech or Fintech environments.
