The Points Guy is a travel and lifestyle brand dedicated to helping people maximize credit cards and loyalty programs to turn dream trips into a reality. The editorial team is looking for an Editor to join the content operations department, which supports the broader editorial team in a variety of initiatives.

Your work will entail a mix of editing (both same-day news editing and copy editing) as well as a great deal of collaboration with content, engineering and photo/design teams. The right candidate will be a team player who can adapt in a fast-paced newsroom with tight deadlines. While expertise in points and miles isn’t required, the team is looking for an individual with a strong interest in the travel and loyalty industry. The expectation is that over time, this candidate will become an expert in points and miles and credit card rewards.

What You'll Do:

  • Edit same-day news content and informational guides efficiently and autonomously, working with assigning editors and writers across our aviation, travel, credit cards and points and miles teams to ensure high-quality content is available to our readers.
  • Ensure content published on The Points Guy meets our standards for editorial integrity, accuracy and legal compliance while maintaining TPG’s tone of voice.
  • Learn the ins and outs of the travel, credit cards and points and miles industries, including staying up-to-date on the content TPG publishes and the current events happening across the industries we cover.
  • Work with other content operations team members to schedule out the daily publishing calendar, from breaking news to evergreen content. You’ll learn best practices for when to schedule different content, and how to manage the TPG homepage. Collaborate with teammates and prioritize daily tasks and projects to ensure high-quality, on-deadline deliverables to all stakeholders.
  • Assist with daily editorial operations requests including helping troubleshoot minor tech issues, performing redirects, embedding social media posts into stories, inputting meta descriptions and creating affiliate links.
  • This role will also have the opportunity to assist with coordinating special projects and initiatives across the editorial team — from seasonal/holiday coverage campaigns to tentpole editorial reports such as our annual Best Airlines report.
  • Check published pieces for errors.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team dedicated to helping our readers, continually improving the brand and also supporting each other through our own professional development.

What We're Looking For:

  • A candidate with strong organizational and communication skills who wants to be part of a collaborative team that specializes in content operations.
  • At least 2 years of experience writing and editing content under deadline, either through freelancing, a full-time position or collegiate experience such as internships or student publications. A solid understanding of grammar, spelling, punctuation and story construction. Familiarity with AP style is a must.
  • Strong interest in the travel industry, especially loyalty programs and credit cards. Experience taking trips using points and miles is a plus, but not required.
  • Willingness to quickly build expertise in the platforms used by the content operations team — including our custom Wordpress-based CMS, productivity management tools Asana and Slack, proprietary Red Ventures tech platforms and more.
  • Basic knowledge of formatting HTML and/or Markup (coding links, text formatting, tables and lists) and working in content management systems, especially WordPress.
  • Familiarity with Google sheets and docs.
  • A candidate who is patient, curious and detail-oriented.
  • Basic SEO knowledge, including familiarity with tools such as SEM Rush.
  • Focus, organizational skills and attention to detail are paramount for the candidate’s success in this role.
