Title:  Senior Software Engineer
Location:  Washington, D.C
Terms:  Full-Time

Overview:  As part of the Data Foundations team, you will design microservices and APIS, develop and maintain some of our core data assets, help us pay down existing technical debt, and work closely with our Data Science and Research. Our team works across the company by collaborating with diverse teams of engineers, data scientists, data analysts, and program managers.  Premise looks for engineers who are passionate technologists with a hunger for learning; who like to take highly complex problems, design solutions and build simple, secure, lightweight, observable systems and services with an eye toward future scalability; and who are continually seeking to improve themselves and their teams.

 
Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the architecture and design of backend services, create and review technical specifications, provide technical feasibility reviews, and write code
  • Drive cross-team collaboration working with product managers to design solutions that work for customers, and with the web, mobile and data science teams to build clean & well-documented APIs that drive fast & highly relevant user experiences
  • Support location-based contributor data using mapping and geospatial technologies
  • Develop cutting edge, intelligent fraud prevention strategies that scale
  • Coordinate with data engineers to build scalable pipelines for ingesting and cleaning data


Basic Qualifications:  

  • Professional experience building scalable, performant, mission-critical software
  • Obsessed with improving the customer experience, strong sense of ownership, and focused on delivering results
  • Passion for learning and sharing knowledge with the team around you 
  • Advance proficiency with database design and query optimization
  • Advanced proficiency with data structures, algorithms and distributed computing
  • Solid understanding of communication protocols and experience building APIs 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth experience with python
  • Test driven development
  • Experience developing for the cloud (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • Passionate about building and developing a world class engineering culture. You are humble and drive positivity.
