Role Summary:

Picarro, Inc. has an opportunity for a Field Application Engineer who will install, operate, and maintain air quality monitoring systems in the workplace, fenceline, mobile, and possibly stack settings around industrial sites. This position will support Picarro’s Environmental Solutions (ES) team reporting to the ES Senior Program Manager.

This position offers the candidate a foothold in a fast-paced, rapidly expanding, exciting, and successful business vertical, working directly with industry and sometimes communicating with regulatory bodies as the ES product line expands. The position requires frequent travel to customer sites, often with short notice, and dedicated periods at Picarro HQ to test existing and new equipment for quality assurance and performance. The position is well-suited to early-career candidates with enthusiasm, flexibility, and willingness to work hard and troubleshoot on the go. Interpersonal skills for navigating customer and partner relationships are important.

Strong candidates will fit the above description and possess an assortment of skills well-suited to this work, including knowledge of analytical instrumentation or industrial engineering, an understanding of basic atmospheric science, and some knowledge of programming in Python or other high-level languages. Good working knowledge of electronics, circuitry, data communication protocols, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and industrial process automation and integration are desirable. Excellent candidates will be willing to identify needs not currently met by the team and fill them, e.g.: writing procedure documents and white papers, managing new application projects in the field, and conducting new tests in the laboratory. Enthusiastic candidates with a willingness to learn should not let the lack of experience in some of these settings or skills hold them back from applying to this position.

You will:

  • Conduct laboratory testing work to support the development of new systems and improvement and quality assurance of existing systems.
  • Coordinate logistics and shipments from headquarters to customer's sites and back as needed.
  • Manage customer opportunities ranging from pre-sales visits and evaluations to on-site installation to periodic servicing and maintenance.

  • Communicate with regulatory personnel at local, state, or federal level to ensure system commissioning is compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Willingness to stay abreast of/familiar with regulatory requirements and updates.
  • Complete key objectives independently, such as quarterly quality assurance reporting, annual service visits.
  • Communicate with Program Manager(s) to define time and resource requirements for a project and coordinate these deadlines with clients and third-party firms.
  • Complete required customer safety training and comply with safety rules on customer sites.
  • Conduct calibrations and validation tests for installed systems as required either by an established quality assurance plan or environmental regulation.
  • Maintain hardware and spare parts inventory.
  • Develop system manuals, test procedures, and guidance documents as required.

Must-have qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working with analytical equipment either during graduate work or in industry.
  • Willingness to spend time in facilities containing hazardous materials.
  • Ability to travel up to 70% of the time including to our headquarters in Santa Clara, CA.
  • Undergraduate degree or greater in a relevant subject, with responsibilities, compensation, and scope of work to scale accordingly.
  • Ability to drive in the US and foreign countries as reasonably as possible.
  • Ability to move objects 50 lbs with the appropriate safety equipment and willingness to work with objects up to 600 lbs in conjunction with site personnel and forklifts.
  • US Permanent residency or Citizenship is required for access to some sites.
  • Coachability—willingness to learn and adapt to the approach based on the direction of supervisors.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and work for reasonably extended periods.
  • The company reserves the right to require random drug testing for all applicable positions.

Nice-to-have qualifications:

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
