As an R&D Hardware Engineering Technician, you will join our Instrument team and bring your hands-on experience to support our mission by assembling, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading medical diagnostic devices.

As the R&D Hardware Engineering Technician you will support the hardware engineering team complete designs, run tests, fabricate parts, and assemble electromechanical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Own the assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of test fixtures, system prototypes, and commercial diagnostic devices to support R&D activities
  • Track and communicate system assembly and operational issues to engineers and collaborate with the team to drive the solution process
  • Assist with management of engineering lab including safety, inventory, and cleanliness
  • Perform engineering tests with limited supervision to collect system performance data or to assist with R&D activities
  • Assist engineers with development of test specifications, manufacturing instructions, and standard operating procedures
  • Build or rework printed circuit boards (PCBAs) and wire harnesses
  • Assist with procurement and tracking of inventory

We'd Love to Hear from You If You (Desired Traits)

  • Are a self-starter with a desire to build products that help improve patient outcomes
  • Are highly skilled in the operation, maintenance, and construction of mechanical systems that include electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot problems systematically and methodically, basing decisions on evidence
  • Have strong time management skills and communicate conflicts to management and the team
  • Interpret documentation including assembly drawings, CAD models, cable drawings, electrical schematics, and Bills of Materials to execute assembly, repair, and procurement tasks
  • Use of basic hand and bench tools, multimeters, soldering and de-soldering equipment, calipers, and drill presses with high proficiency
  • Have experience with basic shop chemicals and understand the use of corresponding Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Use Word and Excel for tracking work and communicating results

Desired Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ experience in instrument assembly-related technical trade
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Experience using measurement devices such as dial indicators and digital multimeters
  • Can use standard machine shop equipment such as mills and lathes (a plus)
  • Soldering and PCBA and harness rework (a plus)
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized test equipment (a plus)
  • Have worked on benchtop biotech instruments (a plus)
  • Associates degree in Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology or similar and/or Certificate in Technical trade (a plus)
