So, what’s the role all about?

With the consumption-based pricing model of the public cloud, a new discipline has emerged in the software industry…FinOps. FinOps, or ‘Financial Operations’ is the optimization of cloud computing costs and resources and is a growing need for any software company in the public cloud. In this role you will focus on searching out, testing, and enacting adjustments and changes to optimize costs. You will learn how to use different tools to understand cost trends to demonstrate success. You will also learn how to help teams define cost-optimized architecture for their services.

 

About the team:

The cost optimization team is a newly formed team to drive cost optimization across the organization. This team will work both tactically to drive cost reduction in both development and production environments. In addition the team will work to establish and drive the strategic processes to ensure cost optimization is shifted left in the development process and treated as a key non-functional requirement.

 

How will you make an impact?   

  • Work as a member of an agile team to proof-of-concept project for potential cost-savings
  • Work to identify potential cost savings
  • Document cost optimization steps such that teams can implement identified cost savings
  • Work to automate cost optimization practices and processes
  • Evangelize cost-optimization with development teams
  • Drive costs down for production and pre-production environments
  • Participate in FinOps training to help grow the discipline in the organization
  • Support teams in understanding the costs of their services and ensuring costs are allocated correctly

 

Have you got what it takes?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience is required. 
  • 5+ years experience in software development 
  • Experience in cloud development (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Experience with AWS services/tools: cost manager, tag editor, compute optimize, pricing calculator, or similar tools on Azure or Google Cloud
  • Experience with system integrations
  • Experience in one or more the following software languages: C#, ASP.NET, Angular, Javascript, Typescript, Java, Python
  • Excellent technical problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience with user stories or use cases 
  • Experience with design patterns or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience with code versioning (git, gitlab, TFS, etc.)
  • Willingness to learn more about the growing field of FinOps
