Position Summary:  We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join our Platform Cell Biology Team.  This lab-based position will focus on driving our understanding of ADAR RNA editing biology through a variety of cellular, molecular, and biochemical based assays.  The candidate will be responsible for the design and execution of assays, including data analysis and interpretation.  The candidate should have demonstrated proficiency in a variety of cell-based assays including routine handling of mammalian cell cultures (passaging, freezing, transfection, etc…).  Experience with RT-qPCR, Western Blotting, immunofluorescence and/or biochemical assays preferred.  The candidate will be a motivated team player, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as be able to balance multiple high-priority tasks.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design, execute and troubleshoot various cell-based assays to further the company’s understanding of ADAR based RNA Editing including, but not limited to, RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, NGS, digital PCR, Western Blotting, and immunofluorescence.
  • Document, analyze and interpret data, proposing next steps.
  • Effectively communicate and present data to the broader team, working collaboratively to align on the best path forward.
  • Continually evaluate relevant literature, participate in journal club meetings as well as continually evaluate landscape for new assays or techniques to improve workflows and/or results.
  • Contribute effectively to projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • MS with 1-2+ or BS with 5-8+ years of experience in molecular and/or cell biology, or related field.
  • Broad experience in the application of cell-based and molecular biology or biochemical-based techniques such as mammalian cell culture, RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, NGS, Western blotting and immunofluorescence.
  • Experience with cell-based high-throughput assays in a 96-well format.
  • The ability to learn and implement new techniques and adapt rapidly is essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and documentation.
  • The candidate must be able to analyze, report and communicate data rigorously.
  • Ability to multitask and successfully interact with a diverse team of scientists to deliver quality data and results.

Other Knowledge, Experience or Skills recommended

  • Experience with confocal microscopy is a plus.
  • Experience with biochemical assays or protein purification is a plus.
