About the Role- We're seeking an accomplished lawyer to join our Future of Work Team and tackle the dynamic intersection of law and policy at Instacart. In this role, you'll collaborate with cross-departmental teams to comprehend, navigate, and influence the regulatory and legislative landscapes that impact every aspect of our business. Your legal expertise will shape informed strategies and compliance initiatives, ensuring the company adapts proactively to ever-evolving challenges. About the Job

As part of the Future of Work Team, you will:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, Policy & Government Affairs, Communications, Product, and Engineering) to shape outcomes in regulatory and legislative proceedings impacting Instacart’s business.
  • Review, draft, evaluate, and advise on legislation relating to the gig economy, retailers, consumer product groups, consumers, and workers.
  • Advise internal teams on regulatory laws to ensure compliance across Instacart's operations.
  • Develop and implement procedures and product changes to meet legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert legal advice on an array of matters, interpreting state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Manage outside counsel, trade organizations, coalitions, and experts to evaluate and drive strategic litigation or regulatory responses as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry groups and partners; represent Instacart in cross-industry collaborations.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in emerging areas as novel challenges arise.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • 5+ years of experience practicing law.
  • Proven ability to provide clear, concise legal advice on legislative matters and collaborate across functional teams to achieve results.
  • Experience engaging with legislative bodies and government agencies.
  • A track record of success in strategizing and implementing compliance frameworks.
  • Previous involvement in drafting or refining significant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with trade organizations and coalitions.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in political law.
  • Background in handling litigation strategy or regulatory challenges.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, highly regulated environments like the gig economy or marketplace businesses.

Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here.
