It's an exciting time to join our dynamic Tax team and be a part of the amazing growth the Company is experiencing!  The Senior Manager, Indirect Tax Compliance will play a central role in the Tax team as Instacart expands in the US and globally. 


  • Drive ongoing process improvements, focusing on automation, efficiency, and analytics/dashboards in partnership with our Tax Technology Team. 
  • Lead the indirect tax compliance, reporting, and accounting activities including but not limited to US Sales and Use tax, GST, VAT, DST, and other business taxes.
  • Responsible for monthly accrual and reconciliation of tax accounts as well as overseeing the ASC 450 process and ongoing analysis.
  • Partner with and manage external service providers.
  • Monitor and research indirect tax legislative changes globally, including developments in marketplace facilitator laws and digital service taxes.
  • Ensure new markets launch with indirect tax compliance requirements and processes implemented, minimizing risk and identifying savings opportunities. 
  • Lead tax system integration and remediation of acquired businesses.
  • Provide support for merchant tax inquiries and deliver practical solutions.
  • Identify indirect tax issues impacting Instacart and perform research and recommendations on the appropriate actions.
  • Review indirect tax requirements for new product and/or system implementations. 
  • Partner with various Instacart teams, including accounting, legal, engineering, operations, and finance on a variety of initiatives. 
  • Train and mentor team members, peers and business partners. 


  • 8+ years of relevant tax experience with a deep understanding of US indirect tax including some international indirect tax experience. 
  • Project management and organizational skills to meet various filing deadlines, both internal and external.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to drill into details.
  • B.S. degree; CPA or JD (JD equivalent) required. MST or Tax LLM is a plus. 
  • Relevant public accounting or industry experience. 
  • A proven ability to build relationships and communicate technical tax issues clearly to non-tax team members and work effectively across all functional teams.
