Business Insider is hiring a reporting fellow to join our Markets Team to help us cover the stock market.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This paid role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellowships can be hybrid, and we expect New York-based fellows to come into our offices at least twice per week. 

The Role & Team:

Markets Insider is a destination for both real-time markets data and incisive coverage of everything happening in the industry. Our reporters deliver crucial insights and detailed analysis to our audience. The team spans the US and UK, and the reporters work collaboratively. Topics covered include: stocks, the economy, crypto, bonds, and currencies.

As a markets fellow, you will be tasked with writing multiple stories a day, covering the biggest market-moving news of the day.

This role reports directly to the Deputy Markets Editor and sits on our Markets Insider team. This role will be based in New York. Fellows are expected to come into the office at least two days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Writing multiple markets stories per day and making sure each story is better than the last
  • Explaining to our readers what the latest market developments mean to them
  • Making markets reports interesting and breaking down the market zeitgeist
  • Working quickly to execute on their ideas

The ideal candidate has:

  • A background in journalism, writing, and reporting online
  • Experience with markets and/or business reporting
  • A keen eye for impactful and potentially market-moving news
  • A working knowledge of SEO best practices

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

  • A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
  • Familiarity with digital and social media
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
  • Proofreading and copyediting skills
  • A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun 
Salary & Benefits:
  • Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
