Inflammatix Portugal is seeking a highly motivated Scientist Level II to contribute to assay development activities supporting microfluidic test system development. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our research and development projects, particularly in the areas of ultra-rapid sample preparation, isothermal amplification protocols, and microfluidic device development. This role is laboratory-based and requires exceptional attention to detail. This role will involve development of novel sample preparation methods and Design of Experiments-based (DOE-based) optimization of existing chemistries. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve project goals and drive innovation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and optimize molec ular assays, including but not limited to various PCR techniques (e.g., qPCR, RT-qPCR), isothermal amplification (qLAMP, RT-qLAMP), and nucleic acid isolation and manipulation.
- Design primers for use in molecular assays and ensure their specificity and efficiency.
- Conduct experiments to validate assay performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets to guide the development and optimization of assays.
- Support translation of ultra-rapid chemistries from the bench top to a microfluidic device.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing and quality control, to integrate assay development with product pipelines.
- Maintain a detailed research log and summarize work in research reports and presentations.
- Present research findings, project updates, and technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in molecular biology and related fields to incorporate innovative approaches into assay development.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior scientists and research associates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or related field with a minimum of 2-4 years industry R&D experience.
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with a broad range of molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to, various PCR techniques, Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and nucleic acid isolation and manipulation, and primer design.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present complex data effectively.
- Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, good organizational skills, ability to prioritize and multi-task, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience with automation and high-throughput assay development is a plus.
- Experience working with clinical samples.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of DOE-based assay optimization is a plus
- Prior work with microfluidic systems is a plus
- Comfortable working in a BSL2 environment
- Proven interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Proficient with Microsoft office suite of programs
- Proficient with one or more common graphical analysis software(s) (RStudio, Graphpad Prism, Minitab, etc.)
