Our Team
The HashiCorp FinOps Engineering team is responsible for driving and improving HashiCorp’s internal FinOps capabilities and culture. Our focus is on empowering cost-conscious decision making by enabling HashiCorp engineers to understand the cost efficiency of their systems through the democratization and attribution of cost and usage data. We seek to measure cultural progress by identifying a set of KPIs and foster continuous improvement through training, cross-functional collaboration, and gamification. This team will involve a mixture of software engineering, and cloud infrastructure engineering experience with a focus on both building tooling and cloud optimization expertise. The team will build strong cross functional partnerships across finance, product, and engineering to deliver meaningful outcomes.
About this Role
This engineering role is on a nascent, growing engineering team. The team is responsible for products that touch many areas of engineering organizations at HashiCorp, so applicants will need to excel at collaboration, have product-focused mindsets, and be comfortable iterating in an agile manner towards solutions.
In this role, you can expect to:
Key Objectives:
- FinOps Leadership: Drive internal FinOps capabilities and culture, fostering a cost-conscious engineering environment.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Democratize cost and usage data to inform engineering decisions, promoting transparency and accountability.
- Cloud Efficiency: Strategically drive infrastructure efficiency improvements, developing dashboards to analyze costs and unit economics.
- Metrics & Reporting: Develop critical success metrics and reports to track spending and usage trends, enabling better decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver elegant solutions that improve FinOps capabilities and foster a FinOps engineering culture.
- Create dashboards and analytics to track cloud spend, identifying opportunities for optimization and cost savings.
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to develop product architecture that considers cost drivers and efficiency gains.
- Develop financial and usage dashboards, working with finance teams on budget forecasting and tagging.
- Establish policies, controls, and best practices to govern cloud spending across the organization.
Additional Tasks:
- Develop solutions and frameworks for cost-effective testing, deployment, and monitoring of services.
- Work with engineering teams to identify opportunities for infrastructure efficiency improvements.
- Monitor cloud consumption at the account level, detecting anomalies and unplanned spikes.
- Build technical skills and relationships within a team of engineers and SREs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Learn, teach, and collaborate cross-functionally to promote shared understanding of FinOps principles and best practices.
You may be a good fit for our team if:
- 9+ years of experience in professional backend software development in cloud environments, with proficiency in major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their associated services, pricing models, and management tools.
- Proficiency in Golang,Python or any other programming language is necessary.
- FinOps Experience: Proven track record of working with Cost Management Solutions such as AWS CUDOS, CloudZero, etc. and developing effective FinOps practices to optimize cloud spend.
- Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, etc…) is highly desirable
- Relevant certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect Certification and FinOps Foundation Certified Practitioner, are a plus.
- Strong experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, GitHub, and configuration management tools such as Ansible is preferred
- Team player with effective interpersonal skills. Manage relationships with key partners across different functions. Able to collaborate with remote teams effectively.
