The Department: Compliance
Compliance at Gemini is a team dedicated to managing the next generation of financial crime prevention in a complex and evolving regulatory environment. We are a diverse group of technology, legal, and operational professionals who develop new approaches to solving classic problems using cutting edge tools and processes.
The Role: Senior Associate, Regulatory Compliance
This is a key role that directly supports the Head of Regulation and Compliance (“RC”) of Gemini UK. The role has specific remit and responsibilities for supporting implementation and management in all aspects of regulatory compliance for Gemini UK. These include managing the compliance risk assessment and driving the execution of the various compliance monitoring workstreams, under the supervision of the Head of RC.
The individual will also need to stay abreast of regulatory changes impacting the business, in particular the crypto assets and e-money regimes, to support the timely and proactive communication within the business. This role will report directly to the Head of Regulation and Compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Head of RC to advise and to guide the business on regulatory compliance matters, including sharing of best practices and regulatory expectations.
- Support the Head of RC with preparation of documents required to respond to FCA supervisory requests.
- Support the Head of RC with information gathering for preparation of internal and external compliance reporting, including the development of accurate and timely Management Information.
- Support with the identification, evaluation, monitoring, and mitigation of Compliance risks, following Gemini’s Compliance Risk Assessment (CRA) and Compliance Monitoring Programme (CMP).
- Keep the annual training schedule under review and support the Head of RC in the preparation and delivery of annual training across the business in accordance with the schedule.
- Prepare training materials in conjunction with the Head of RC.
- Maintain the compliance policies and procedures review schedule and working with the business function leads to ensuring that all compliance policies are reviewed and updated in a timely manner - at least on an annual basis.
- Help identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and develop/implement pragmatic corrective action plans.
- Work with the Head of RC to monitor and assess the impact of regulatory developments and changes on Gemini UK, including advising on the appropriate actions and solutions to ensure compliance and mitigate risks; support strategic planning.
- Work cross-functionally (such as Product, Development, Customer Service) to ensure the continued effectiveness of our internal risk controls and support the first-line to identify emerging risk areas in order to ensure timely and proactive management.
- Support with the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators.
- Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with business unit leads across the Gemini Group.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5-7+ years experience within the financial services industry and in particular, operating within a compliance lead role.
- In house or external regulatory consultancy experience within a payments/e-money environment is essential.
- Operational knowledge and understanding of running a robust compliance programme, with hands-on knowledge and an understanding of regulatory requirements in the UK - as guided by the Head of Compliance.
- Experience of effective communication and management of multiple stakeholders is essential, both internal such as senior management, as well as third-party stakeholders.
- Ability to build collaborative working relations with peers, colleagues and with remote based teams with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Regulatory compliance qualifications such as CISI or ICA diploma.
