The Role:

Generate is seeking to expand the Research & Development (R&D) team by recruiting a talented and adaptable (Senior) Research Associate to join the growing bioassay innovation and discovery team within the Preclinical Discovery and Development department to support integrated high-throughput screening (HTS) platforms for our discovery programs. As an HTS assay scientist you will play a critical role in the adapting traditional assay technologies into HTS amenable formats and executing production runs on HTS platforms composed of liquid handlers, plate reader, flow cytometer, high content imager, and data capture software for biologics discovery. You are expected to collaborate closely with the automation specialist, members from protein science, informatics, and Machine Learning (ML) groups to produce high quality data to enable ML model development for lead discovery and optimization. This is an opportunity to perform highly innovative technology development with considerable intellectual freedom, while being part of the collaborative and premier scientific environment of a well-funded biotech startup.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop biochemical and cell-based assays (384-well plate format) for HTS workflows to interrogate MOA of therapeutics and generate high quality data sets to build ML models.
  • Work closely with automation engineer to perform HTS and HCS campaigns, and work with informatics group, and machine learning engineer to streamline data analysis workflow linking to the internal LIMS and interactive learning cycles.
  • Convert traditional biochemical and cell-based assays into HTS amenable formats.
  • Troubleshoot experimental design and assay optimization.
  • Work with external vendors to bring in new HTS technologies.
  • Analyze experimental data and present results at project meetings.

Desired Qualifications:

  • B.S. in biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, bioengineering, or related areas with 2+ years industry experience or M.S. with 0+ years industry experience.
  • Proficient with general mammalian cell culture techniques including maintaining primary/immortalized cells and transient transfection
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, team-oriented environment with colleagues from diverse disciplines
  • Experience in plate-based assay technologies including ELISA, HTRF, LANCE, Alpha Lisa, luminescence is a plus
  • Experience with lab automation (plate washers, liquid handling systems, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience in high throughput screening is a plus
  • Experience in computational methods and/or coding is a plus
