Content Marketing Manager

The Content Marketing Manager is part content creator and part air traffic controller. They will advance Fastly’s story by pulling thoughtfully crafted content that supports our brand and business goals out of the subject matter experts throughout our organization, and help manage the process and flow of different pieces of content as they get created, approved, published, and promoted. As a member of Fastly’s Content Marketing team, you’ll lead individual content programs and participate in collaborative efforts with several cross-functional teams to conceptualize, create, and execute content-led programs that build brand awareness and affinity, and generate leads.

The ideal candidate is highly skilled at creating, managing, and refining processes within a team, but also understands content angles like finding unique story angles, having empathy for the perspectives of different audiences, and translating technical capabilities into customer benefits. Do you dot i’s and cross t’s? Excellent. Know a great idea when you have one? Amazing. Understand how to strike a balance between upholding an idea’s integrity and adapting it to tell the right story? Even better! Love getting into the details of deeply technical products with the engineers who invented it? Perfect! You’ll excel in this role if you’re a natural collaborator and multi-tasker, eager to dive right in and own the process, but also help with brainstorming, writing, and editing.

What You'll Do:

  • Proactively connect with internal work partners to schedule and hold meetings to collect technical insights, drive content creation plans, and see projects through to completion
  • Act as a strategic content partner on cross-functional programs, working directly with those teams accountable for activating and promoting your content to set objectives, key performance indicators, handoff expectations, and deadlines.
  • Manage the flow of different content projects as they move from ideation to creation, revision, approvals, publication, and promotion
  • Help co-manage the editorial calendar of the Fastly blog, able to create 2-4 blog posts per month
  • Develop high tech technical content across multiple mediums and channels (ebooks, reports, white papers, email, ads, blog, landing pages, events, video). In particular, Fastly needs compelling content that can feed our hungry Demand Gen engine
  • Initiate, own, and manage thought leadership programs end-to-end with deep collaboration & enthusiastic partnership from across the company
  • Act as a strategic content partner on cross-functional programs, working directly with those teams accountable for activating and promoting your content to set objectives, key performance indicators, and program deadlines
  • Get tuned into the Fastly brand story, stay on top of industry developments, news, and trends; strategically bring these two sides together to pitch and create timely, relevant, and ownable content
  • Conduct research and interviews to build content around a differentiated point of view
  • Ensure integrity of our brand narrative in your writing and editing (voice, style, tone)
  • Function as an in-house content authority and advisor by educating and influencing others on content plans and objectives
  • Scale content production by finding opportunities for expanding or atomizing content, and working with contractors and vendors

What We're Looking For: 

  • 5+ years writing and driving content marketing programs for B2B technology brand in a fast-paced company or agency
  • Experience working in a high tech or complicated B2B SaaS organization with multiple product lines requiring a depth of knowledge about features, capabilities, and product marketing jargon strongly preferred. 
  • Adaptable approach to initiate, own, and produce industry leading content marketing programs and thought leadership deliverables
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects to build a content marketing program, and scale the volume of materials over time ensuring high quality deliverables
  • Experience managing, adapting, and creating content management processes involving —- approvals etc etc etc, trello, jira, smartboards, or other similar management tools
  • A propensity for project management and interpersonal communication; comfortable juggling multiple projects, delivering them on time and on budget
  • Meticulous attention to detail with outstanding proofreading, fact-checking, and editing
  • Experience performing research with and acquiring insights from a variety of sources — from industry publications to customer interviews
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling manner
  • Ability to get inside the mind of our target prospect/customer personas, and tailor messages for that particular audience — from ads to landing pages to event collateral, and beyond
  • Can closely collaborate with design to shape, define, or adapt to the creative direction; provides great care for how copy works with the design
  • Great teammate with outstanding communication skills and a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic; comfortable seeking out relevant internal and external subject matter authorities and helping shape content opportunities with them
  • Flexibility to work with a globally distributed team, coordinating across locations and timezones
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Technical Marketing, Computer Science, or related field

  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

This position is open to the following office location:

  • San Francisco, CA - in our SF office 3 days/week (typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home. 

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary: 

The estimated salary range for this position is $114,200.00 - $137,040.00

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
