Job summary

DigiCert is seeking a dynamic and experienced VP of Engineering that will lead our Digital Trust / IoT organizations.  In this role you will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders, and build, mentor and scale high-performing teams.  You will be a technology evangelist, and represent DigiCert internally as well as externally. 

 

What you will do

  • Lead and Inspire: Build, mentor, and scale high-performing teams of backend and embedded engineers, fostering a vision-driven culture that values technical excellence and innovation. 
  • Advance DigiCert’s Device Trust Platform: Oversee the engineering strategy for DigiCert’s Device Trust portfolio, including PKI-enabled and device management solutions for IoT, Industrial IoT (IIoT), medical devices, and safety-critical systems. Develop solutions that ensure devices can securely authenticate, encrypt communications, and maintain trust at scale. 
  • Cultivate High-Performance Teams: Create and sustain a culture of action-oriented leadership, emphasizing radically simple designs and bias for execution. 
  • Drive Technical Leadership: Provide expertise in system-level design across Linux, microcontrollers, or real-time operating systems, ensuring cutting-edge engineering practices. 
  • Champion Modern Engineering Practices: Leverage advanced tools and methodologies across the software development lifecycle, including CI/CD pipelines, DevOps workflows, and security-first design principles. 
  • Architect for Scale and Reliability: Deliver highly scalable and resilient systems capable of managing billions of device identities and certificates, ensuring seamless functionality across diverse environments. 
  • Foster Innovation: Lead technology innovation initiatives to advance device trust solutions, including post-quantum cryptography readiness, automated certificate lifecycle management, and next-generation secure key storage. 
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product management, design, and other engineering teams to deliver security-critical systems spanning IoT, IIoT, and industrial applications. Ensure alignment with DigiCert’s broader mission to secure digital trust in connected ecosystems. 
  • Ensure Platform Resilience: Drive the design and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant systems that deliver exceptional uptime and availability, supporting billions of connected devices and mission-critical operations globally. 
      

What You'll Bring 

  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated success managing and growing “lead-of-leads” teams, inspiring high-caliber engineering organizations to deliver exceptional embedded software solutions. 
  • Technical Expertise: Deep experience in enterprise-level embedded software engineering, with significant architectural contributions to security-focused platforms. Familiarity with PKI, cryptographic protocols (TLS, DTLS), and secure hardware (TPMs, HSMs) is highly desirable. 
  • Strategic Partnership: Strong history of collaboration with product management to deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions. 
  • Impactful Innovation: Experience in defining technical standards and rolling out tools impacting millions of connected devices and thousands of users. Proven ability to drive adoption of technologies like mutual authentication, secure boot, or firmware over-the-air updates. 
  • Customer-Focused Execution: Skilled in interacting with customers, translating their requirements into actionable technical solutions, and ensuring their success in regulated industries such as healthcare, automotive, and manufacturing. 
  • Communication Excellence: Ability to articulate technical visions, challenges, and solutions effectively across engineering and non-engineering audiences. 
  • Deliver Enterprise-Grade Resilience: Architect and scale systems to achieve 99.99% uptime, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and seamless performance for billions of connected devices and mission-critical workloads across diverse global environments. 
  • Thought Leadership and Communication: Proven ability to present technical vision, innovations, and solutions to IoT-focused audiences at conferences, industry events, and customer engagements, establishing DigiCert as a leader in Device Trust and secure connected ecosystems.
