About the Position
The purpose of the Jordan Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Activity (the Activity) is to assist USAID/Jordan to create a dynamic learning environment among development actors that is focused on innovation, quality, and knowledge sharing. The Activity supports the Mission through services for designing and conducting evaluations, monitoring the performance, and applying learning and adaptive management, while building sustainability through capacity building of USAID and Implementing Partner (IP) staff as well as local stakeholders. To build capacity among Jordanian monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) firms, the Activity adopts the “Learn by Doing” approach. The approach supports two objectives: 1) providing USAID with high-quality MEL services across its portfolio, and 2) ensuring activities meaningfully incorporate local participation to advance the local MEL community.
The Strategic Communication Specialist is expected to lead the strategic communications efforts of the Activity including the coordination of the 2024 USAID Annual MEL Conference and Activity reporting processes for USAID deliverables. This is a full-time, long-term role and reports to MELA’s Deputy Chief of Party.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic communications component of the Activity.
- Lead the coordination effort for the 2024 USAID Annual MEL Conference.
- Manage the Activity reporting processes for USAID deliverables, including but not limited to Annual Progress Reports, Quarterly Progress Reports, Work Plans, and IP newsletters.
- Produce publications such as infographics, briefers, factsheets, success stories, and flyers focused on the Activity’s interventions.
- Copyedit and proofread reports, PowerPoint Slides, and other deliverables from the Activity’s local MEL organizations to ensure language is clear, concise, and consistent with USAID style; verify these are all properly marked and branded in alignment with ADS 320.
- Create and manage content for the Activity’s social media accounts and work with colleagues to promote relevant content.
- Support the coordination and management of events as needed.
- Strengthen coordination, collaboration, and synergies within Mission and other key stakeholders.
- Manage other support resources such as event firms, video production firms, PR firms, and communications freelancers as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in communications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in English and Arabic
- Experience with website and social media technologies and applications
- Strong knowledge of MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe Illustrator and Canva
- Based in Jordan
- Degree in Communications, Journalism, Professional Writing, Public Relations, or related field preferred
- Experience working in international development sector
- Ability to synthesize complex technical issues and data into language that is accessibly and compelling to external audiences.
- Ability to translate highly technical documents from English to Arabic.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and pay close attention to detail
- Experience in organizing and moderating online and in-person events and conferences (highly desirable)
- Flexibility, openness to change, and proven ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks and meet tight deadlines
- Experience in basic graphic design
