About the Position

Dexis is seeking a highly qualified Controller to join our corporate team. This is a director level position requiring demonstrated ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and team management, and accountability for achieving results. The Controller supervises all activities in the accounting department, including payroll, accounts payable, tax and treasury, and accounting systems. 

  • Designs, implements, and continually improves financial controls, systems and procedures within the Finance and Administration division.
  • Manages team priorities, provides team support on processes including training and mentoring to develop the staff.
  • Performs quality control/assurance over financial data and accounting processes, identifying, and resolving core issues related to accuracy, timeliness and efficiency.
  • Ensures company follows federal, GAAP, and corporate accounting principles, practices, and guidelines. 

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Overall responsibility for all activities within the accounting department, maintaining the financial records, including Payroll, Accounts Payable, Tax and Treasury, General Ledger, Accounting Systems, and monthly close.
  • Develops and leads monthly financial reporting for third party purposes (banks, investors, agencies) including the preparation of the monthly consolidated financial statements, and financial reporting for domestic and overseas subsidiaries.
  • Leads treasury operations including the relationship with banks and ensures necessary covenant and regulatory reporting meets required standards and deadlines.
  • Develops and participates in activities to build a strong knowledge culture by sharing best practices and important innovations through networking and knowledge management.
  • Interpretation and clarification of policies and procedures and other support to accounting, finance and project management staff relating to financial activities.
  • Maintains/enhances/supervises the accounting system (Deltek Costpoint) to ensure accurate recording and financial reporting of company activities, working with third party support as needed.
  • Prepares or reviews reports, statements, invoices and other related materials to ensure compliance with corporate practices, and US government regulations.
  • Reviews and approves payroll and all payment transactions. Ensures all payroll and payment transactions are controlled and processed expeditiously, meeting all deadlines.
  • Internal lead on all tax matters for payroll, income and franchise taxes with third party support as needed. Reviews processing of all tax documents for employees, including 1099's and W-2's and all necessary information required for DCAA, OIG, corporate, and tax audits.
  • Collaborates in preparations of indirect cost rates for submission to USAID. Assists in calculations and billing of indirect cost rate adjustments.
  • Undertakes assignments on projects or special initiatives as appropriate.

Management and Leadership

  • Recommends and/or leads strategic staff recruitment. Supervises, mentors, and evaluates manager and associate-level staff, communicating clear performance goals and standards, offering regular performance feedback, ensuring effectively run meetings, and maintaining an open-door policy.
  • Leads documentation and open-sharing of best practices and important financial process and reporting innovations company-wide, including in the field.
  • Delivers effective oral and written presentations that advance development assistance knowledge and understanding and communicates in a way that persuades and promotes openness and innovation.
  • Coach managers to develop effective supervisory skills.
  • Promotes staff development through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional growth opportunities.
  • Promotes and exemplifies Dexis values and ethical standards and manages staff to achieve team and development objectives.
  • Creates a productive and motivating work environment for staff by promoting cooperation and teamwork across departments, staying abreast of management, leadership, and team building strategies and advocating for them.
  • Develops effective working relationships with clients, counterparts and stakeholders and continually promotes outstanding client service with home office staff and field teams. Conducts duties and responsibilities with full understanding of clients' requirements, the relevant policies, regulations, and operating procedures.

  • In collaboration with the VP of Accounting and Finance, develops work plans for accounting department, ensures provision of timely resources to execute the plan, oversees progress and reporting of implementation, ensures proper technical direction in scope of work, and conceptualizes new strategies to improve performance.
  • Supervises recruitment of accounting staff, developing guidelines consistent with corporate policies, scopes of work, position qualifications, and selection of candidates.
  • Supervises, develops, and evaluates assigned accounting teams and individuals, and assists managers with supervision of associates. Ensures staff receives regular performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and time and opportunity to grow and develop in key competency areas.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

The employee will perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the VP Accounting and Finance which might include administrative, management, and technical tasks as well as working on special task forces. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred
  • Minimum 12 years senior professional experience in financial management, corporate finance, budgeting, computerization of financial operations, with emphasis on government contracting.
  • Experience managing teams, recruiting excellent candidates, developing staff capabilities and promoting the careers of successful staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Expert knowledge of compliance and accounting, particularly in government contracting.
  • Experience in the application of indirect rates and cost pools.
  • Knowledge of company’s main clients and their operations
  • Ability to write and verbally communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at increasingly advanced levels of leadership and authority. Assume increased control over significant technical projects, new business efforts, budgets and resources, produce and take responsibility for results, as well as increasingly contribute to corporate strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of unique environment in which projects operate.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team always maintaining and fostering a respectful and positive work environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular attendance and availability during normal business hours are required.
  • Ability to work in a normal office environment.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
