As the Lead Engineer of our O&O Websites, you’ll lead a squad of engineers dedicated to building scalable, high-performing web solutions that drive audience engagement and traffic growth. Working closely with Audience, Media, AdOps, and SEO teams, you’ll play an essential role in optimizing our user experience, site speed, and feature development across our web properties.

Our tech stack includes AWS, PHP, Python, Node.js, Javascript, MySQL.

The salary range for this role is $150,000-$190,000. Pay offered may vary within the posted range based on a number of factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

 

WHAT YOU’LL TACKLE

  • Solutions Development: Oversee the architectural design and integration of new features that align with UX design and business goals, balancing content, tracking, ads, and supplemental site integrations. Maintain technical SEO health and ensure site structures align with SEO best practices.
  • Technology Optimization: Drive improvements in performance, speed, reliability, uptime, and security. Execute and maintain scalable product features and ensure continuous site uptime.
  • Audience Growth and Engagement: Lead efforts to enhance site experience, including A/B testing and traffic optimization, and work closely with internal teams to support UX and SEO objectives.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As the Engineering leader, you’ll mentor, guide, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, set goals, oversee priorities, and track progress on key initiatives. Specific roadmap projects may include:

  • User Journey and Engagement Optimization: Partner with Product Managers to identify and develop User features to boost audience engagement.
  • SEO and Content Frameworks: Lead the development of Technical SEO and Taxonomy projects to enhance SEO performance.
  • Headless Architecture and Page Templates: Implement headless infrastructure and update article templates for streamlined content delivery.
  • A/B Testing and Conversion Rate Optimization: Test and optimize content and commercial elements to improve monetization and engagement.

You’ll work closely with product managers to balance speed and quality in technical solutions, become an expert on our architecture and workflows, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 6-8+ years in web development, specifically focused on large scale content-driven websites, with at least 2 years in a leadership role with direct reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript), experience with applying frameworks (React.js, Angular, etc) with a focus on high-traffic, scalable web solutions.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with backend development, including but not limited to PHP, Node.js, Django/Flask, and including work with WordPress or similar CMS platforms, 
  • Knowledge of technical SEO principles and best practices, with a history of implementing SEO-optimized site structures.
  • At least 2 years of professional engineering experience at a fast-paced company under 200 people.
  • Demonstrated experience in site performance tuning, including page speed, uptime, and security improvements.
  • Proven ability to prioritize projects and deliver results on time, even in fast-paced environments.
  • A passion for technical excellence while balancing time-to-market considerations.
  • Solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to overcome obstacles efficiently.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, promoting collaboration and shared success within teams.
  • Experience marshaling cross-functional teams to deliver and take own ownership and accountability 
  • A commitment to Agile processes and methodologies, with the ability to manage roadmaps, sprints, and deployments.
  • A passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and mentoring other engineering community members, occasionally coding or evaluating code.
  • History of instilling a culture of continuous improvement in a team’s code, architecture, and processes.
