What You Will Be Doing
The Senior Staff Engineer is responsible for leading the technical development and engineering of cloud-based web applications for enterprise-level solutions. This role is focused on the design, implementation, and optimization of complex, scalable, and secure applications that run in cloud environments. The Senior Staff Engineer plays a crucial role in guiding the engineering team, ensuring that architectural and coding best practices are followed, and delivering high-quality solutions that align with business objectives.
What You Will Bring to ChargePoint
Cloud-Based Application Development:
- Design, develop, and implement cloud-native web applications that are scalable, secure, and high-performing.
- Lead the development of microservices, APIs, and serverless architectures on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while implementing coding standards and best practices.
- Lead code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting efforts to ensure high code quality.
Cloud Infrastructure & Integration:
- Design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions using containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Ensure seamless integration between cloud-based web applications and on-premises or third-party systems using APIs and integration services.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment, testing, and monitoring of cloud applications.
Performance Optimization & Monitoring:
- Optimize web applications for speed, scalability, and efficiency, leveraging cloud-native tools and services.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure high availability and reliability of cloud applications.
- Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and ensure load balancing and auto-scaling are in place to handle traffic spikes.
Security & Compliance:
- Ensure that all cloud web applications adhere to security best practices, including encryption, authentication, and authorization mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, etc.).
- Implement security measures to protect data, including secure data storage, encryption, and compliance with relevant standards (GDPR, SOC2).
- Proactively identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and risks.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate closely with product teams, architects, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Work cross-functionally with DevOps, QA, and security teams to ensure the smooth development, testing, and deployment of cloud web applications.
- Present technical solutions and progress to leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on emerging cloud technologies, frameworks, and industry trends to continuously improve existing systems.
- Drive innovation by evaluating new tools, technologies, and methodologies that enhance the development lifecycle.
- Lead initiatives that improve development processes, engineering efficiency, and application performance.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience:
- 12+ years of experience in web application development, with at least 5 years focused on cloud-native solutions.
- Strong experience building large-scale enterprise applications in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Proven expertise in modern web development frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js) and backend development with languages such as Node.js, Python, Django.
- Extensive experience in cloud technologies, including serverless computing, microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud security best practices.
Skills:
- Proficiency in cloud platform services (AWS Lambda, EC2, S3, API Gateway, Azure App Services, etc.).
- Strong experience in database design and management (RDS, NoSQL, SQL, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure and application issues.
- Expertise in automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) and DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, logging).
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and web services architectures.
- Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect
