Position Description:
Calico is seeking a Scientist to join the Cellular Phenotyping (CP) group. Our lab applies high-content imaging and phenotypic screening to better understand age-related processes and identify opportunities for therapeutic interventions. Your responsibilities will include implementing strategically useful cell culture models and using high-throughput microscopy-based approaches for characterizing cellular phenotypes. This role will require integration of cutting-edge cell culture methods with rapidly evolving approaches to image analysis. The ideal candidate has a broad technical background that will enable effective collaboration between life scientists, data scientists, machine learning engineers and automation engineers. To succeed in this role, you will need to be self-motivated, collaborative and enthusiastic about technology.
Position Requirements:
Ph.D. degree in biology or bioengineering plus 0-5 years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience
Experience with high-content imaging or automated microscopy
Experience with basic image analysis (segmentation, feature extraction, quantification)
Track record of productivity and effective collaboration
Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
Clear verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail, time management and organization skills are a must
Must be willing to work onsite 5 days a week
Nice to Have:
Advanced tissue culture models including any/all of the following: iPSC-derived disease models, spheroid/organoid models, co-culture systems
Plate-based phenotypic screening
CRISPR gene editing methods
Unbiased profiling technologies such as RNAseq, proteomics or metabolomics
Common lab automation, such as liquid handling
Programming in Python and the fundamentals of machine learning concepts
The estimated base salary range for this role is $135,000 - $163,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
