Position Description:

The successful candidate will be a drug development outsourcing expert with strong outsourcing, negotiating, and contracting skills to support execution of Calico’s drug development programs. This key role will be responsible for managing the outsourcing process from the point of identification of need through contract execution for the Drug Development Department. This is an interdisciplinary role involving close partnership across the Calico organization. 

Responsibilities:

  • Service Provider Outsourcing, Negotiations, and Contracting
    • Lead outsourcing process in partnership with Drug Development stakeholders, Finance, and Legal
    • Prepare requests for proposals for outsourced services
    • Coordinate cross-functional review/assessment of proposals as part of overall vendor selection process
    • Review, draft, and negotiate budgets and contractual terms, ensuring that final contracts cover the necessary scope and are consistent with company requirements, applicable regulations, and good business practices
    • Manage the contract execution process according to Calico requirements
  • Contract Management and Maintenance
    • Evaluate service provider delivery in accordance with the contract and minimize/negotiate change orders
    • Ensure contracts executed by Calico are requested and tracked within legal database
    • Oversee appropriate contract approvals and approval documentation
    • Prepare reports as needed
  • Process and Template Development
  • Support development and updating of Calico’s processes and tools, including request for proposal and contract templates
  • Participate in corporate initiatives
  • During all stages of activities, interact with internal customers, procurement, legal and finance departments, and other functions as appropriate, managing high volume of contract requests to meet project timelines

Position Requirements:

  • Degree in scientific, business, legal discipline or related field, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or related industry, to include at least 8 years of experience in outsourcing and contract negotiation/management
  • Experience with various contract types and service categories
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the current global and regional trends in clinical outsourcing and contracting as well as legal and regulatory environment as it relates to the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Knowledge of the drug development process with a deep understanding of the operational aspects of clinical development including a thorough knowledge of the clinical site contracting process
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing to multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software
  • A positive can-do attitude
  • Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week

The estimated base salary range for this role is $210,000 - $220,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
