Position Description:
Calico is seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our multi-disciplinary Protein Science team with a focus on applying biochemistry techniques to support projects relevant to human aging and disease. The candidate will work closely with protein biochemists to gain mechanistic understanding of protein targets and potential therapeutics. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, work autonomously with a variety of experimental techniques, and be comfortable presenting results to cross-functional teams.
Position Requirements:
BS/MS in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline and 4+ or 2+ years (BS or MS respectively) working in academia/industry
Experience with biochemical and/or biophysical assays in 96- or 384- well formats is required, preferably with experience/familiarity with enzyme activity assays (fluorescence, luminescence) and binding assays (SPR, BLI, FP or nanoDSF)
Experience with cell culture and expression of recombinant proteins in bacteria and mammalian cells
Experience with protein purification (affinity, IEX and SEC) and assessing protein purity using SDS-PAGE
Experience using an electronic notebook would be a plus
Strong teamwork and proactive communication skills
Independent, accountable, meticulous attention to detail, and able to multitask
Strong communication and organizational skills to interact with collaborators
Must be willing to work onsite five days per week
Nice To Have:
Experience with structural biology techniques
Experience with membrane protein purification/assays
The estimated base salary range for this role is $119,000 - $130,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
