Position Description:
Calico is seeking an experienced Proteomics Scientist to join the mass spectrometry proteomics group. To succeed, you will need to be an enthusiastic team player, detail-oriented, organized and comfortable working on complex problems. The work will involve multiple mass spectrometry based analyses including proteome profiling and investigation of post translational modifications. You will work with many different sample types, optimize and develop sample preparation and mass spectrometry methods, and be responsible for various research projects. The position will involve driving proteomics research projects as well as working closely with collaborators across labs at Calico. The position is ideal for someone who excels at wet lab but also has some computational biology training.
Responsibilities:
- Lead proteomics method development projects
- Apply standard and non-standard proteomics methods for multiple projects
- Prepare samples from tissues, cells, and biofluids
- Optimize and develop new sample preparation and LC-MS methods for protein and peptide profiling
- Maintain and troubleshoot instruments including HPLCs, mass spectrometers and other bioanalytical equipment
- Proteomics data analysis
- Present results at internal lab meetings and company-wide meetings
- Publish results and present at external scientific conferences
Position Requirements:
- PhD, in biochemistry/chemistry/biology or related field
- Strong record of productivity and scientific publications
- Experience in method development for HPLC and/or mass spectrometers
- Experience in proteomics data analysis and R/Python/Matlab
- Experience in proteomics sample preparation
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting HPLCs and mass spectrometers
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Self-motivated with a “can-do” attitude is required for success
- Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities and able to multitask
- Must be willing to work onsite 5 days per week
Nice to Have:
- Experience in immunoprecipitation and protein-protein interactions
- Experience in structural proteomics workflows
- Experience in AS-MS (Affinity Selection Mass Spectrometry)
- Experience in HDX/FPOP
- Experience with Thermo Eclipse/Lumos/Astral mass spectrometer
The estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $135,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
