Principal Investigator, Vascular System Homeostasis and Aging
at Calico
South San Francisco, CA
Who We Are:
Calico (Calico Life Sciences LLC) is an Alphabet-founded research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies and model systems to increase our understanding of the biology that controls human aging. Calico will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Calico’s highly innovative technology labs, its commitment to curiosity-driven discovery science and, with academic and industry partners, its vibrant drug-development pipeline together create an inspiring and exciting place to catalyze and enable medical breakthroughs.
Position Description:
Calico seeks an experienced Principal Investigator with an innovative research program that addresses the causes and consequences of mammalian vascular system decline with age. The candidate will be responsible for developing an integrative research program focused on understanding molecular mechanisms driving age-associated changes in vascular function, rarefaction and calcification to uncover new biological principles that contribute to the pathophysiology of age-associated human diseases. The successful candidate should also be interested in identifying ways to therapeutically intervene to promote tissue and organismal resilience that are informed by a mechanistic understanding of aging pathobiology.
Principal Investigators at Calico are expected to lead independent, productive research groups in a fully funded, highly collaborative research environment with support from state-of-the art technology labs, including biochemistry, genomics, mass spectrometry, microscopy, preclinical imaging, mouse physiology, data science and machine learning. Principal Investigators are part of the larger scientific community and are encouraged to actively engage in academic collaborations and to publish their work.
Position Requirements:
Ph.D. or M.D. in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, metabolism, physiology, systems biology, or related field
Post-doctoral experience and preferably someone that has led an independent research program (5 plus years) in either industry or academia
Strong record of originality and productivity including impactful publications
Must be willing to work onsite five days per week
Please include a description of research interests, cover letter, and resume/CV in the application. Applications without these three requirements will not be considered.
