Position description:
Calico is searching for a highly motivated and self-driven Histopathology Principal Research Associate to support researchers and contribute to unraveling the underlying mechanisms of tissue aging and pathobiology of age-related diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for various histopathology laboratory tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animal tissue fixation, trimming, processing and embedding for paraffin and frozen sectioning
- Tissue sectioning with microtome and cryostat (slide-mounted or free-floating)
- H&E staining and various special staining
- Optimizing and troubleshooting protocols to produce high-quality stained slides
- Whole slide digital image scanning
- Maintaining laboratory reagents and equipment such as cassette and slide printers, tissue processors, embedding stations, microtomes, and cryostats
- Maintaining records of tissue preparation and inventories of tissue blocks and slides
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience with histologic processing/sectioning/staining of tissues, OR a minimum of 3 years of experience and a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification issued by ASCP
- Must have knowledge of various histology techniques and instruments and ability to independently troubleshoot
- Must be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and carry projects to completion with proper and accurate documentation
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, and ability to collaborate across many teams
- Must be able to work onsite at least four days a week
Preferred skills:
- Knowledge of rodent anatomy and/or necropsy skills
- Experience with immunohistochemistry, RNA in-situ hybridization (traditional or RNAscope), spatial transcriptomics
- Experience with microscopy (imaging with brightfield or fluorescent microscope) and image analyses (quantification)
The estimated base salary range for this role is $132,000 - $166,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
