Position Description:
Calico seeks an experimental scientist passionate about translating promising discoveries in aging biology into clinical interventions that positively impact aging and age-related diseases. You are a highly motivated and creative scientist who can generate actionable and transformative insights from the analysis of diverse data and use these to develop and implement pivotal in vitro and in vivo studies.
As part of a highly collaborative and matrixed group, you will design, execute and analyze key studies that help progress translational programs to the next stage in Calico’s pipeline. Ideally, you have an understanding of drug development and translational research, and you can organize a complex project by integrating diverse sources of information. You are expected to form strong collaborations and effectively utilize an array of cutting-edge technologies and resources available at Calico and through our collaboration with AbbVie -our drug development partner. You should possess a growth mindset and be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Design, execute and interpret preclinical experiments focused on translational programs in aging
- Collaborate effectively with external CROs and technology core labs. within Calico
- Regularly communicate experimental data and conclusions to various stakeholders and write manuscripts for publication when appropriate
- Be an active and engaged participant in translational research activities at Calico
Position Requirements:
- Ph.D. in biological sciences or related discipline
- At least 2+ years of postdoc experience or relevant industry work experience
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, protein and cell-based assays
- Experience with in vivo mammalian research including tissue isolation, cellular dissociation, and processing for RNA and protein analysis, FACS, and histology
- Data analytical and quantitative skills required
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with mesenchymal stromal cells, fibrosis, immunology, or metabolism research is a plus
- Must be capable of working independently but also be an effective team player
- Must be willing to work onsite at least four days per week
The estimated base salary range for this role is $127,000 - $166,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
