Aya Healthcare seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our Platform Architecture team. This role supports a large-scale SaaS application and infrastructure primarily hosted on Azure. It is critical to designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure solutions that ensure scalability, security, performance, and cost efficiency across the platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong DevOps, Security Engineering, Cloud Engineering, and Platform Infrastructure Architecture background, with bonus points for experience in software development or a related field. 

This person will primarily work PST business hours.

Responsibilities: 

  • Cloud Infrastructure Architecture & Strategy: Lead the design and evolution of Azure-based cloud infrastructure, ensuring alignment with platform architecture strategies and organizational goals. Define best practices for infrastructure design that supports high availability, disaster recovery, and fault tolerance. 
  • Platform Engineering Leadership: Act as a technical leader within the Platform Architecture team, guiding infrastructure modernization initiatives and platform improvements. Develop strategies for migrating legacy systems to cloud-native architectures, focusing on scalability, maintainability, and performance optimization.
  • Security Engineering: Collaborate with Security Engineering teams to implement security best practices across the cloud environment, including identity and access management (IAM), network security, encryption, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Lead efforts to continuously monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of cloud resources and applications. Implement load balancing, auto-scaling, and cost optimization strategies to improve system efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Platform Infrastructure Architecture: Provide architectural guidance for building resilient and highly available cloud infrastructure. Collaborate with other Platform Architects and Engineers to align infrastructure solutions withoverall platform strategy and application needs.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Software Development, DevOps, SRE, and Security Engineering, to support the continuous improvement of our platform. Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in cloud infrastructure design and management.
  • Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain documentation for infrastructure architecture, processes, and best practices. Contribute to establishing standards for cloud engineering, DevOps, and security practices. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. At least 10+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Architecture roles, with a strong focus on Azure.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Advanced knowledge of Azure cloud services, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Functions, App Services, Virtual Networks, Storage, and Azure Policy.
    • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools like Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep, or equivalent, to automate and manage complex cloud environments.
    • Expertise in DevOps toolchains and CI/CD pipeline development using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms, emphasizing automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.
    • Deep understanding of network and security architecture, including firewalls, VPNs, security groups, Azure AD, and other identity and access management tools.
    • Experience with monitoring, observability, and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics) to maintain infrastructure health and proactively identify performance issues.
  • Platform Architecture Experience:
    • Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems and microservices architectures.
    • Familiarity with service mesh architectures and tools like Istio or Linkerd to manage complex service-to-service communications securely and efficiently.
    • Understanding of API management, edge networking, and global traffic management strategies.
  • Problem-Solving & Leadership: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead complex incident responses and provide clear, actionable recommendations. Experience in leading technical projects, guiding cross-functional teams, and driving platform improvements.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, leading by example and fostering collaboration.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Development Experience: Familiarity with software development languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Go) and frameworks, enabling better collaboration with software engineering teams and an understanding of their needs and workflows.
  • Cloud Certifications: Azure certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert) or equivalent certifications demonstrating expertise in cloud platform architecture.
  • Container Orchestration & Microservices: Extensive experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, including best practices for deployment, scaling, and securing microservices applications.
  • Experience with Multi-Cloud Environments: Knowledge of managing workloads across multiple cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) is a plus, as it brings a broader perspective to architecture decisions and platform flexibility.
  • Security Certifications: Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate) highlighting your capability to design secure cloud environments.
  • FinOps Knowledge: Understanding of cloud cost management principles and experience implementing FinOps practices to optimize cloud spending and increase ROI.

Compensation: Aya reasonably anticipates the pay scale for this position to an annual salary of $170,000 to $190,000.

The pay scale for this position may vary if applicant possesses experience outside of what Aya reasonably anticipates for this position. Bonuses are subject to the role and your manager’s discretion.
