We are seeking an experienced medicinal chemist to serve as chemistry team leader and/or project team leader on Platform projects directed toward the identification of high-quality ligands for new E3 ligases and the development of innovative heterobifunctional degraders or molecular glue degraders for cellular proof-of-concept studies, with the aim of advancement to pipeline programs for the identification of therapeutically differentiated clinical candidates. This scientist should have a track record of medicinal chemistry accomplishments resulting in meaningful impact on early-stage drug discovery programs.

Kymera Therapeutics is a publicly listed, clinical stage biotechnology company pioneering the field of targeted protein degradation (TPD) to bring life-changing medicines to patients that need them. Kymera’s Pegasus™ TPD platform harnesses the body’s natural protein recycling machinery to degrade disease-causing proteins, with a focus on undrugged nodes in validated pathways currently inaccessible with conventional therapeutics. As we work toward becoming a fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company, we are growing and strengthening organizational capabilities and evolving our culture. As a result, Kymera has been recognized by both the Boston Globe and the Boston Business Journal as one of Boston’s top workplaces.

In 2023, we plan to continue to advance our leadership in TPD and enhance our capabilities to deliver on the potential of inventing a new class of protein degrader medicines for patients. Kymera is rapidly advancing four clinical stage programs in oncology and immunology, and is positioned to deliver one additional Investigational New Drug Applications (IND) annually. We are also actively advancing a broad pipeline of preclinical programs where TPD has the potential to provide a best-in-class approach, both internally and in collaboration with our partners Sanofi and Vertex Pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage a strategic and holistic approach to hit identification and lead generation, including the use of fragment-based drug discovery and ligand-, property-, and structure-based drug design
  • Drive state-of-the-art, early-stage multiparameter optimization with creativity, in-depth analysis of data, and literature knowledge
  • Exhibit effective leadership and management of CRO chemistry teams through excellent medicinal chemistry skills with clear and open communication, as well as cross-functional leadership capabilities for helping drive Platform projects from hit identification through cellular proof-of-concept studies

Qualifications:

  • PhD in organic chemistry with 6+ years of experience as a medicinal chemist in the biotechnology sector or pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern hit finding, drug design, and pharmacology principles
  • Excellent medicinal chemistry skills and creativity are required
  • Passion for bringing new and more effective medicines to patients
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and a highly collaborative, data-driven, creative mindset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
