Seneca Federal Health is looking to hire a Librarian to support our government client.  This position provides critical support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM). DHA is a combat support agency delivering integrated, affordable, and high-quality health services to beneficiaries of the Department of Defense's Military Health System.

This position manages the museum collections according to NMHM policies including cataloging and classification of the collection.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs descriptive and subject cataloging and classification of monographs, serials, government and military documents, legal and legislative materials, dissertations, audio-visual materials (i.e., CD-ROMs, DVDs, videos, CDs, audio cassettes, and microforms).
  • Develops and maintains a cataloging and classification database.
  • Organizes, shelves, and inventories existing and incoming collection items.
  • Provides comprehensive reference, research, advisory, evaluative, instructional and acquisition services to individuals or groups in related departments

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in library sciences or equivalent degree.
  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the professional librarian discipline and of basic collection development principles to include a professional knowledge of library theories, objectives, principles, and techniques         to perform research.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of duties in the reference function to provide advisory, evaluative and instructional services to evaluate, select, and adapt precedents to meet the needs of library patrons.
  • Knowledge or training in MARC cataloguing, LOC standards and dewey decimal.
  • Knowledge of reference tools and current professional literature.
  • Knowledge is used to locate information from a wide variety of published and unpublished sources in all formats, to include the internet and World-Wide-Web servers.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with referential database development and management.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with specialized libraries containing medical or scientific collections.
