We are looking for a Project Manager to effectively oversee lab automation projects within Elegen. This role is an opportunity to work in a highly creative, fast paced & motivational environment with an extremely talented, fun, passionate team with high integrity. The Project Manager works extensively with the scientific, software and engineering teams to apply Elegen’s operational excellence. You will ensure that all projects are delivered on-time and within scope and budget. You must have an eye for details, and possess superior problem-solving skills.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that requirements are met, and customer/stakeholder satisfaction is balanced with Elegen’s corporate goals.
  • Manage project scope and deliverables through proper documentation and process driven milestones.
  • Manage internal automation projects from project initiation through delivery and sign-off.
  • Establish project goals and implementation plans; develop detailed, cross functional, realistic timelines; plan for resource requirements and contingencies, estimate buffers, etc.
  • Establish and take ownership of the change control process. Clearly communicate the impact of changes to the project team and senior management in a timely manner.
  • Work with external vendors to ensure equipment and parts are purchased and delivered according to project timeline and specifications. Function as the main contact for third party vendors as needed.
  • Interface with external and internal customers, project staff, and SMEs as required to drive projects forward.
  • Anticipate and mitigate project risks. Understand organizational issues and underlying causes to make judgments; recognize the impact and interconnections in the organization and with management as needed; develop and recommend alternatives that support project strategies.
  • Work with cross functional groups to ensure that project activities are staged according to need and resources. Adjust schedules when appropriate. Provide updates to senior management.
  • Conduct project reviews with the intent to improve the internal processes and ensure consistency. Share lessons learned within the company. Recommend innovative ways to improve performance and quality, and modify work processes and procedures as needed.
  • Mediate conflicts and take initiative to resolve them constructively; probe for root causes of problems, collaborate to find mutually beneficial solutions, propose action steps, and assist in implementation.

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a life sciences field.
  • 5+ years of technical project management experience directly transitioning R&D projects to production environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with laboratory automation and LIMS integration preferably in an assay development, HTS, diagnostics, or manufacturing field as a lab automation scientist or engineer.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering laboratory automation processes from R&D to commercial operations as a project team member or manager.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide generation of SOPs/WIs and product manuals for complex laboratory workflows.
  • Ability to lead meetings and coordinate team activities through all phases of project timelines.
  • Ability to balance multiple project workloads and discern highest resource priorities.
  • Strong commitment to resolving issues and managing tasks to completion.
  • Experience with common project management software such as Confluence/JIRA/Smartsheets required
  • Solid work ethic and demonstrated ability to function in a matrixed organization.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The annual base salary compensation for this role, if based in California is: $145,000 - $170,000. Compensation may be different in other locations.  Final compensation also includes bonus, equity and benefits.   Specific offer packages are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location.
