EKN Engineering is a fast-growing civil engineering and technology consulting company located in Irvine, CA. We are looking for a Civil Engineer to join us on our quest to further invent and innovate.

EKN’s team engages with high-priority clients on a wide range of project types, including commercial and retail developments, industrial and office parks, hospitality developments, and private/public infrastructure, such as sanitary sewer, domestic water services, roadways, and drainage facilities.

The Civil Engineer will be joining our robust team for projects and report to the Director of Engineering. This group consisting of youthful and seasoned professionals and supporting team members that focus on thoughtful, innovative, and efficient solutions to design challenges that are applied on projects throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, and beyond.

As a Civil Engineer, you should be a critical thinker and have sound subject knowledge to identify and engineer tasks. You must also possess a certain level of creativity and experience to present innovative and economical solutions to technical processes. A successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate ideas, make recommendations, and negotiate project details with their team, subcontractors, and clients.

Professional Requirements

  • Strong track record of overseeing successful delivery of projects
  • Strong relationships with local agencies.
  • Demonstrated supervisor/mentoring skills.
  • Strong proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong engineering judgment with a background in land development, water resources, transportation, and/or geotechnical.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts.
  • Drive to be a leader in the company and in the professional community.
  • Willingness to travel for other Land Development opportunities or lead other projects in between opportunities.
  • Familiarity with permit application development and coordination for federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Experience participating at local municipal meetings, coordinating with other project professionals, meeting with clients, and meeting/negotiating with various permit agencies.
  • Assist in Project Management duties (e.g., managing budgets, resources, and deadlines, acquiring, and compiling quotes, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field with 5-10 years of work experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California or willingness to obtain licensing in California and other states as needed.
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Land development knowledge strongly desired.
  • Working knowledge with design software, such as Autodesk, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Hydraulic/Hydrologic Modeling
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design.
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Leadership skills to effectively manage a diverse group of professionals working on one project.
  • Ability to coordinate more than one project at a time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience would include any of the following: site design, site grading, earthwork analysis, drainage, dry utilities, sanitary sewer, domestic water, and underground fire services improvements, erosion control, and storm water quality management plans.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to grow our Land Development practice.
  • Knowledgeable in stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), water quality management plans (WQMP), Low Impacted Development (LID) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements.

Physical Demand

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands, handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; color vision is very helpful. Occasional field work may be required and includes walking through uneven, rugged terrain, requiring good balance, ability to walk moderate to long distances, and good general vision and depth of field vision.

Work Environment

The noise level in the office work environment is moderate.  May be required to work in an external environment in all weather conditions.
