Compensation: The salary range for this role is $52,000-57,000 annually. EHTP also offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Who We Are

East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) began in 1958 as a children's reading group and has since grown into a multi-site after-school program for traditional public school students and a network of public charter schools focused on significantly increasing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. We are on track to serve at least 25% of East Harlem students by 2025, with enrollment for this year at approximately 2200 students in our schools and after school programs. In 2020, 99% of our seniors were accepted to college, and our current scholars in college are on-track to graduate at eight times the national average of their peers.

At EHTP we also aim to serve as an agent of change and thoughtfully contribute to the national fight for racial equity. Through our organization-wide commitment to anti-racism work, we prepare our scholars to effect change, challenge the status quo, and thrive in the world around them. About the Opportunity

EHTP’s Success Scholars Program supports 150+ students through the completion of their postsecondary pursuits, i.e., students completing 2- or 4-year college degrees  or vocational programs. Through a Senior Seminar, Mentoring, a 4-week summer bridge program and other high-impact in-person and virtual events and  programs, we support students to make sure they persist through their postsecondary pursuits and are able to secure their first professional job. 

While our program supports students in any Postsecondary pathway, the person in this role will work primarily with students in their second through sixth years of postsecondary (college, workforce training programs). The Success Counselor will begin working with students after their first year of postsecondary, up until graduation from a two- or four-year program or vocational program, or their sixth year after high school graduation. They will collect and use data to help individual students, as well as to build effective programming to ensure high persistence and matriculation throughout college. 

 

What Qualifies You

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree and 2-3years of professional experience working directly with students and families, preferably in postsecondary access or success, youth development, academic advising, counseling, or a related field.
  • You have a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities of working with First Generation, Black, Brown, and/or economically-vulnerable students
  • You have a record of working with students in achieving their postsecondary goals (college students and/or high school graduates in vocational programs), and bring practical knowledge in helping students persist through graduation
  • You have demonstrated success in designing and executing social and professional events and/or programs, both in-person and virtually, for college-aged youth
  • You are comfortable with collecting and analyzing data from various sources to make data-driven decisions about student success
  • You are committed to a youth-centered, strengths-based approach to the work, with a desire to work with students of diverse identities, abilities, experiences, and talents 
  • You are comfortable in communicating with students and caregivers in Spanish (preferred but not required) 

 

Areas of Leadership:

Student Support & Communication (60%)

  • Manage a caseload of 200+ scholars, maintaining consistent contact via a weekly newsletter, and a mix of group and individual outreach through email, phone calls, and text messages
  • Assist students with class selection, financial aid renewal, academic appeals, and the college transfer process
  • Identify appropriate interventions and promptly connect college students to relevant academic and community resources (eg. tutors, academic advisors, financial advisors, employment resources) as needed to ensure academic persistence and success
  • Collect, track, and monitor all relevant data points, including: transcripts, current contact information, course selection, etc. to ensure progress toward 2- or 4-year graduation goals and career aspirations
  • In collaboration with the workforce team, research and share scholarships and employment opportunities with students, and support them through the application process

 

General Program Support (30%)

  • Support College Scholars programs and events, including High School graduation, College Scholars graduation, holiday kick-off celebration, Annual College Scholars Summit, and other events throughout the year
  • Track all data and support with the creation of reports for internal and external stakeholders

 

Travel & Events (10%)

  • At least once per semester, plan and execute a visit to College Scholars on campus in the Northeast region and tristate area
    • Individual check-ins -- meet with Scholars at their home campus for a check-in
    • Relationship building -- plan an outing or dinner for College Scholars in the geographic area to connect with each other
  • In partnership with the Workforce Team, plan and execute virtual and in-person graduate school and career fairs at least once per semester
