POSITION SUMMARY

We’re looking for a seasoned Director of Platform Engineering who is ready to roll up their sleeves and lead the charge in transforming how we build, deploy, and scale software. In this role, you'll lead a team of Platform and DevOps managers and engineers, steering the teams towards a more streamlined, service-focused operational methodology. 

Your mission? To make sure our cloud software development architecture is keeping pace with the times is scalable, and is perfectly in tune with what our product engineering teams need to get high-quality products out the door. It involves everything from fine-tuning our tech stack to mentoring the team and making sure we’re all rowing in the same direction. If you love the challenge of change, know how to get the best out of people and technology, and have a knack for seeing how the pieces fit together to hit big goals, we want you on our team. This position will ideally be hybrid in Palo Alto with 2-3 days in the office though there is remote flexibility for the right candidate. The Palo Alto base salary range for this full-time position is $301,500 - 368,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

  • Lead the optimization and ongoing enhancement of our cloud-based software development and delivery architecture, ensuring it supports a service-centric operational model.
  • Develop and support a comprehensive suite of integrated platform services, enabling product engineering teams to deliver software efficiently and with high quality.
  • Drive organizational change towards a service-oriented architecture, aligning platform engineering efforts with the CTO org’s strategic objectives.
  • Promote and uphold best practices for cloud architecture and DevOps methodologies, positioning the team at the forefront of industry standards.
  • Foster close collaboration with cross-functional leaders to ensure Platform is aligned with Product Engineering and Architecture orgs to deliver products within time and budget constraints.
  • Establish an operational rhythm that balances intense productivity and sustainable development of the team.
  • Provide strategic direction and technical oversight to the platform engineering team, aligning their work with overarching business needs and product roadmaps.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • A seasoned leader adept at guiding organizational change towards a service-centric operational philosophy.
  • A proven history of leading platform engineering teams, with at least 12 years in engineering and 10 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent industry experience. 
  • Extensive experience in cloud-based architecture and platform engineering, with a track record of aligning engineering efforts with business and product needs.
  • Strategic thinking abilities to shape platform strategy, anticipating future challenges and aligning efforts with long-term business objectives.
  • A strong advocate for operational excellence, committed to building, managing, and scaling teams focused on agility, performance, and quality.
  • A customer-centric mindset, balanced with a deep understanding of technical strategy and the ability to foster a technically strong engineering culture.
