Who We Are:

Dusty Robotics is a venture-backed startup automating construction through advanced robotics. Dusty envisions a future in which construction workers make use of robotic automation to make their work safer, more efficient, and more precise; a future in which they don't need to retire early because their bodies give out. In Dusty's vision, the buildings where we live, work and play are built by teams of creative and problem-solving construction crews, who are directing robots to do the physically demanding and dangerous work.

The centerpiece of our strategy is the FieldPrinter: a mobile printer-on-wheels that prints building floorplans (in CAD format) full-size on the concrete floor of a construction site. Our robot prints lines, text, and points with 1 mm accuracy, enabling builders to construct walls and fixtures on top of our layout with zero mistakes:

What You'll Do:

We’re looking for an experienced electrical engineer to lead the electrical engineering of our products. You will own all aspects of electrical design of our system including custom PCBs, battery, power budget, and charging solutions, motors and drivers, sensors and cameras, radio technology, and compliance. Our ideal candidate has experience bringing electro-mechanical and battery operated products to market.

Additional Duties:

  • Own all aspects of our robots’ electronics design from concept to production
  • Own all custom boards from start to finish: specification, architecture, circuit design, schematic, layout, prototype, validation, and manufacturing support
  • Build hardware that drives printers, interfaces to sensors, communicates with radios, drives the motors, manages the battery, and distributes power
  • Be part of a cross-disciplinary team that is solving problems spanning mechanics, printing, optics, electronics, firmware, and software
  • Be part of a growing, successful startup with strong customer pull for our product

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years experience developing electrical systems from design through production.
  • Strong understanding of analog & digital circuits (motor control, MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, microcontrollers, FPGAs, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Competent in PCB CAD software (Altium preferred)
  • Proficient with lab equipment and troubleshooting (scope, spectrum analyzers, etc)
  • Experience debugging issues involving noise, transmission lines, and ESD.
  • Experience with board manufacturing including the creation of fab packages, BOM management, EMS selection, and communication.
  • Experience with FCC, UL, and other electrical certifications
  • BS in electrical engineering or related field

Our Engineering Team

We are a culture of do-ers who respect each others’ strengths, and work together to accomplish the impossible. We value open-mindedness, technical depth, passion for what we’re building, an itch to build something with your own two hands. We celebrate people who create their own narratives rather than living someone else’s.

Our engineering teams are guided by experienced leads who value clean design, elegant architecture and modern technologies. We are committed to quality and reliability; our QA team supports our software efforts with rigorous testing, and we all frequently visit construction sites to evaluate our robot in operation.

We also provide mentorship in all areas of engineering to help you do your best work. In addition to day-to-day involvement with other experienced engineers, we host weekly discussions on engineering topics. We reimburse attendance fees for technology conferences on robotics and other fields. And we offer support in accessing whatever learning resources you find helpful.

It's been said that spending a couple years at a high-growth startup will gain you the equivalent of 10 years experience anywhere else. Dusty is very much in this phase of growth. Working here will provide you with a wealth of challenges and experiences that you'll carry forward long into your career.
