Drop Engineering contains a number of seasoned developers who have scaled web apps beyond 10M daily active users. With our combined experiences we’ve distilled good practices and processes to ensure a healthy, sane, and efficient work environment. Drop is a distributed workplace which means none of us work out of an office. We’re looking to expand beyond our San Francisco-based team to include great remote talent located in the Ontario area. 

About the Role

Drop Engineering is a small, fast-moving team dedicated to fundamentally changing the way enthusiast communities buy and interact online. We’re looking to grow our engineering team with an experienced web developer who ideally has experience with React.js and Node.js. Those with a passion for front-end development are especially encouraged to apply.

As a Software Engineer you’ll report directly to the Engineering Manager and will be a key contributor to technology at Drop. You’ll have a direct impact on the company by developing some big and exciting projects. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Product and Design to deliver amazing experiences to our enthusiast communities as we grow and scale.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is a full-stack web developer who has experience in a majority of the bullet points below:

    • Strong front-end development skills.
    • Have a history of strong technical ownership on past web development projects.
    • Feel comfortable working both solo and in small teams to complete projects.
  • Able to deliver software projects on time and at high quality.
  • Understand the value of team processes and are able to help others abide by them.
  • Able to provide accurate estimates for small projects.
  • Able and willing to learn “ops” work - ability to resolve production breakages or emergencies while maintaining a cool head.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication.
  • Humble and excited to learn from seasoned engineering leaders.
  • Are familiar with the modern Javascript ecosystem.

Bonus points for prior experience with:

  • React.js
  • CSS
  • Node.js
  • MySQL or other relational db

Timeline for Success

First 60 Days
Ramp up and become proficient on our existing Javascript stack and codebase (React.js, Node.js, Express.js, Redis, MySQL):
- Fix an array of bugs designed to give you a tour of our systems
- Complete small/medium size technical projects

2-6 Months
Participate in our development roadmap, building systems and features for any of our top-level projects (Website, Messaging, Platform). Embrace and master team processes. Get familiar with your coworkers. Gain expertise in our technology, demonstrate proficiency and establish credibility within the team through your strong performance and contributions.

6 Months - 1 Year
Meet or exceed expectations for a fully ramped up Software Engineer:
- Proficient in core languages and systems used by Drop
- Ships code in a consistent and efficient way
- Can track and communicate progress of projects against estimate
- Able to seek help from peers when needed
- Is effective at working with others toward solutions
- Can clearly communicate requirements and solutions to other team members
- Can adhere to team process in order to work efficiently and avoid delays
- Actively seeks to better their technical knowledge base
