About the Role
The Principal Engineer, Security Operations will lead planning, development, and execution on Security Operations initiatives. This critical role is responsible for enhancing the organization's security posture by advising on security strategies to respond to evolving threats, leading security tool migration and implementation, conducting consultation for cross-functional partnerships, leading detection engineering, developing risk-based analytics for alerts, developing and executing log management strategies, and other duties requiring senior engineering and security subject matter expertise as assigned. The Principal Engineer will work closely with the Director of Security Operations to directly support the Threat Defense, Corporate Security, and Security Platform Engineering teams.
You will report into the Director of Security Operations in our Enterprise Security organization, under the Chief Information Security Officer.

- Act as a senior information security strategist to develop and execute on strategic roadmaps for continuous improvement of the team's capabilities, to include developing new capabilities in monitoring and response
- Act as a senior information security advisor and provide subject matter expertise to support response to information security incidents, including investigation of, countermeasures to, and recovery from cyber attacks, unauthorized access, and policy breaches
- Conduct hands-on detection engineering for custom alerting, to include implementing risk-based analytics to reduce alert volumes and promote high-fidelity alert content
- Support security tool planning, architecture, acquisition, and implementation to ensure the organization is postured to respond to current and emerging threats
- Lead security tool evaluations, to include vendor engagement, with full proof-of-concepts and develop documentation for product selection
- Provide senior consultation and execute solutions for complex security challenges impacting DoorDash networks, assets, technologies, customers, and merchants
We’re excited about you because…
- 10+ years of experience in secure coding, alert development, detection engineering, incident response, and threat hunt.
- Experience working with Global partners in a follow-the-sun model
- Experience partnering with engineering, vulnerability management, and red teams to secure diverse environments
- Experience providing technical leadership and guidance, and thinking strategically and analytically to solve problems
- Excellent understanding of information security operations related frameworks and standards (e.g., MITRE Att&ck and NIST)
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Led with a people-first approach, is able to facilitate a conversation rather than dictate it, and is empathetic to divergent viewpoints

Compensation
The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.
In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants. Talk to your recruiter for more information.
