About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Policy and Government Relations to help build and lead our policy and government relations efforts in Japan. You will guide our government relations strategy executing an ambitious agenda and making an immediate impact on a fast-growing, dynamic business. Candidates must have a passion for policy, an excellent understanding of the political and regulatory environment in Japan, demonstrated experience working at the nexus of business and politics, well-established relationships with political bodies and decision-makers, and the determination to represent the company in trade associations and relevant fora.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Help build DoorDash’s emerging Japan practice and craft and execute our government relations strategy
  • Build relationships with political stakeholders including policymakers and administrative authorities
  • Represent DoorDash at regulatory hearings, including by providing testimony  
  • Participate in trade groups, industry associations, and thought leadership groups on behalf of the company
  • Work with other members of the policy team to mobilise all participants in our three-sided marketplace in support of DoorDash’s political strategy 
  • Collaborate with policy development leads to craft policy solutions that serve business needs while serving our community and meeting political realities 
  • Coordinate with industry and trade associations 

We’re excited about you because…

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Law, Political Science, International Affairs, Government, Public Affairs, related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • You have 6+ years working experience in the field of public policy or government relations 
  • You thrive under pressure and have a proven ability to achieve ambitious policy outcomes 
  • You have a deep understanding of government relations, including in implementing regulatory and public policy positions and strategies, grassroots organising, and the mechanics of policymaking
  • You have native level Japanese and fluent English
  • You are organised, collaborative, and have a bias for action
  • You’re a self-starter; you’re intrinsically motivated but also a good teammate
